Position:              1.0   5-12 Science and Technology Coordinator

Location:             Har-Bur Middle School and Lewis Mills High School (Shared Campus)

Reports to:         Director of Teaching & Learning and Building Principals

Starting Date:   With the commencement of the 2025-2026 school year

The 5 – 12 Science and Technology Coordinator is a key member of the teaching and learning team at both the middle and high schools.  This individual supports the horizontal and vertical coherence of 5 – 12 NGSS Science standards and the diverse course offerings at LSM.  This team member provides job-embedded, focused coaching for individual, departmental and organizational growth. A skillful collaborator and communicator, the 5-12 Coordinator supports teachers individually, within and across grade levels. In partnership with the building principal, the Director of Teaching & Learning, and the team of K-12 Coordinators, this individual ensures fidelity of practice to the curriculum and our Shared Definition of High-Quality Learning.  This position also works with their STEM Coordinator counterparts at the elementary schools, so truly has a team of teaching and learning colleagues (building-based and central office partners) to effectively achieve the strategic goals of the district. This position receives six additional paid workdays outside of the contractual 186 days, teaches no more than two classes, and receives an additional stipend for responsibilities outside the contractual day.

Qualifications:  Appropriate CT Secondary Science Endorsement(s) 

Endorsement 092 – Intermediate Administration or Supervision preferred but not required

A minimum of 5 – 10 years demonstrated success as a secondary Science teacher with specific emphasis in and knowledge of the Next Generation Science Standards (NGSS) and 3D assessments.

Experience:        Demonstrated leadership experience, ongoing NGSS professional learning, skills in coaching structures,                                 leading professional learning amongst colleagues, a deep knowledge of data analysis, strong written                                     communications and presentations to professional colleagues and community stakeholders, a deep knowledge                                 of current inquiry-based, student-centered instructional methodologies and practices in the Sciences.

 

The ideal candidate will have in-depth knowledge and experience to successfully engage with the following responsibilities as an individual and as a member of an instructional leadership team:

  • Engages in the RSD 10 Instructional Coaching Model in support of pedagogical best practices in Science, the RSD 10 Vision of the Graduate, Shared Definition of High-Quality Learning and the district’s Equity commitments
  • In collaboration with building and central office leadership, designs and delivers professional learning in the discipline of Science with the integration of technology into the teaching & learning environment
  • Discerns ongoing curricular, instructional and pedagogical needs through the analysis of multiple data points (classroom, grade-level, schoolwide, district) and coaching observations
  • Assists with PLC conversations and priorities 
  • Continues the guidance and development of 3D Assessments
  • Supports instructional strategies and systems for the vertical progression of the NGSS standards and practices
  • Manages the 5-12 department’s supply ordering and budgeting
  • Actively participates in regular leadership meetings and decision-making with the Building Principal, Director of Teaching and Learning, and fellow content-area Coordinators in the advancement of building- and district-wide goals
  • Performs other duties as assigned by the Principals and Director of Teaching & Learning
