Position Title:  Lab Assistant II – Chemistry

Position Summary: 

Assist professor with all aspects of weekly lab setup/breakdown/cleanup, and validation of new lab experiments and lab teaching methods.

   

Main Job Duties:

Assist professor with setting up and tearing down chemistry labs. This includes but is not limited to making solutions/reagents, setting up instruments/materials/dishes needed during the lab setup and take the lab down by cleaning and storing the materials to the cabinets. Assist professor with varied teaching duties such as conducting test reviews and grading tests. The chemistry professor or the lab manager will be available to supervise the candidate for the work details, but the candidate is expected to work independently or following written and verbal directions. 

Depending upon the professor’s research program, the candidate will get an opportunity to assist the professor in his research work, including processing and analyzing samples, and analyzing/interpreting data. Although this position is designated for chemistry lab related works, the candidate is expected to be flexible to work in other science labs or doing general office duties occasionally as per need. The candidate must be on campus for laboratory work, but data related work can be done off campus.

 

REQUIREMENTS:

Skills: Ability to work effectively without supervision, but comfortable asking for direction when needed.

 

Major/Coursework Required: The ideal candidate will: 1) have completed CHEM 112 or introductory chemistry course and high school experience may qualify 2) be able to learn quickly and work with minimal supervision, 3) be responsible and dependable 4) possess genuine interests in the physical sciences.

 

Physical Requirements:  (Example: Ability to lift 15 lbs.)
