Kayak Associate Brooklyn Bridge Park Conservancy 

The Brooklyn Bridge Park Conservancy is seeking Summer Kayak Associates for the 2025 season. Brooklyn Bridge Park Conservancy plays a vital role in creating and energizing this community-focused, world-class urban oasis on the Brooklyn waterfront. A 501(c)3 non-profit, we bring this unique park space to life with more than 500 innovative and engaging educational, cultural, fitness and recreational programs each year. Our free and low-cost events create new and exciting opportunities for tens of thousands of NYC residents and visitors to learn, grow, and experience all that Brooklyn Bridge Park has to offer. 

Ideal applicants will be adept at multitasking, work well with youth, passionate about public programs, and ready to take on many and varied responsibilities. They must also be comfortable with being on and around the East River and have a background in kayaking or other water-based recreation (and willingness to be trained as a safety boater). They should genuinely enjoy being on the ground with program partners and participants, making sure things run smoothly and safely, and that everyone has a great time. 

This is a part-time, seasonal position, approximately 20-25 hours per week, with shifts available throughout the week (mornings, afternoons and evenings), from end of May-September. There will also be mandatory safety boater training prior to the beginning of the program. Pay rate is $20.00/hour. 

Responsibilities include, but are not limited to: 

  • Be trained as a safety boater and directly support the Conservancy’s kayak programs on-water
  • Work closely with fellow Kayak Associates and youth kayak trip leaders to execute programs
  • Assist our partner, Brooklyn Bridge Park Boathouse, with registration/walk-ups for public kayaking
  • Work and communicate with program partners and participants to ensure they are supported
  • Track visitor information, including demographic information and program participant numbers
  • Maintain kayak programming equipment
  • Offer directions and general information to the public
  • Support other Conservancy programming as directed, including mobile Visitor Services Desk

Qualifications: 

  • College student or recent college graduate, or comparable training and vocational education
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills
  • Outgoing, curious, mature, positive, and a self-starter
  • Ability to perform outdoor physical labor (lift 40 lbs) in all weather conditions, including hot summers
  • Interest in executing hands-on, youth-facing events
  • Ability to work responsibly, quickly, independently, accurately, and consistently
  • Must be comfortable around and getting in water

Compensation: Pay rate is $20/hour. This is a part-time, approximately 20-25 hours per week, hourly position.
