OFFICIAL TITLE: Marketing & Communications Student Intern
INTERNSHIP TYPE: Part-Time (10 hours/week during the semester)
HOURS: Flexible within Extension office hours (Monday through Friday, 8:30am - 5:00pm)
LOCATION: Green Bay, WI
ORGANIZATION: UW-Madison Division of Extension, Brown County (STEM Innovation Center, University of Wisconsin-Green Bay campus)

JOB SUMMARY:
The Marketing & Communications Student Intern will play a key role in amplifying the impact of UW-Madison’s Division of Extension programs in Brown County. This position provides a unique opportunity for students to gain hands-on experience in marketing, communications, outreach, and community engagement while supporting a variety of Extension initiatives. The intern will help communicate the significance of Extension’s programs and resources, while contributing to the development of promotional content and strategies that engage the local community.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Content Creation & Strategy: Develop and implement strategies to highlight the impact of Brown County Extension programs, including but not limited to Community Gardens, FoodWIse Nutrition Program, 4-H Youth Development, Dairy Education, and Community Development.
  • Promotional Materials: Design and create engaging promotional materials (flyers, brochures, posters, etc.) to showcase Extension programs and events.
  • Writing & Editing: Write and edit content such as articles, newsletters, and press releases, ensuring clarity and alignment with Extension messaging.
  • Social Media: Craft compelling social media posts and updates for approved Extension channels to drive awareness and engagement.
  • Community Engagement Support: Assist with event planning, community outreach efforts, and program promotions to encourage active community participation.

Qualifications:
The ideal candidate will be pursuing a degree in marketing, communications, design, or a related field, and have relevant experience or coursework in marketing and communications.

  • Strong verbal and written communication skills, particularly in content creation and presenting relevant information.
  • Experience with design platforms to create professional promotional materials.
  • Proficiency in using social media platforms to drive engagement and promote programs.
  • Basic photo and video editing skills.
  • Attention to detail and the ability to meet deadlines in a fast-paced environment.
  • A passion for community engagement and a willingness to collaborate with a dynamic, dedicated team.
