Speech/Language Pathologist - Campus Setting

The Iowa Department of Health and Human Services (HHS) is seeking a Speech/Language Pathologist to join the team at the Woodward Resource Center (WRC). This is a full-time position with opportunity for advancement, growth, and development.

About Woodward Resource Center

At WRC, our mission is to prepare and support individuals to in the community of their choice. As part of the WRC team, you will play a vital role in facilitating the development of social skills, receptive/expressive language, augmentative/alternative communication, and oral motor skills.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Provide primarily indirect service and some direct service in areas of dysphagia management and communication.
  • Conduct formal/informal communication evaluations, dysphagia screenings, and augmentative/alternative communication evaluations.
  • Participate in individual's annual reviews/scheduled meetings related to individual programs and progress.
  • Collaborate as an interdisciplinary team member in program development and implementation.
  • Maintain departmental records, reports, and individual's materials.
  • Attend professional meetings, workshops, and training to meet continuing education requirements.

Key Competencies:

  • Proficiency in language acquisition and development, alongside expertise in diagnostic and evaluative tests, as well as other assessment techniques for speech, language, and auditory disorders.
  • Sound understanding of the physical, environmental, and psychological aspects of intellectual disabilities and their correlation with speech and language disorders.
  • Familiarity with treatment techniques aimed at correcting speech and language disorders and enhancing communication skills, adhering to Intermediate Care Facility Mental Retardation standards of Title XIX for speech and language pathology services.
  • Competence in utilizing specialized equipment and materials for the assessment and treatment of speech-language and auditory problems, including audiometers, impedance bridges, tape recorders, phonic mirrors, language masters, language boards, electronic devices, and other relevant materials.
  • Ability to accurately identify and evaluate communication disorders through test results, and effectively instruct speech-language impaired individuals in developing effective communication skills.
