ESL Teacher (K-12)

 

Core Responsibilities:

Instruction and Curriculum:

  • Plan, organize, and deliver effective English language instruction to students of varying levels and backgrounds. 

 

  • Create and implement engaging lesson plans that align with curriculum standards and student needs. 

 

  • Utilize diverse teaching methods and resources to cater to different learning styles. 

 

  • Integrate technology and multimedia into instruction to enhance learning. 

 

Assessment and Feedback:

  • Regularly assess student progress and provide constructive feedback. 

 

  • Develop and administer formative and summative assessments to measure student growth and proficiency. 

 

  • Maintain accurate records of student progress. 

 

Student Support and Communication:

  • Identify student learning needs and provide appropriate interventions, including small-group instruction and individualized support. 

 

  • Foster a positive and inclusive learning environment that respects diverse cultural backgrounds. 

 

  • Communicate effectively with students, parents, and other educators. 

 

Professional Development:

  • Stay current with best practices in ESL instruction and second language acquisition. 

 

  • Participate in professional development opportunities to enhance skills and knowledge. 

 

Other Duties:

  • May be required to participate in school events and activities. 

 

  • May be responsible for maintaining classroom resources and materials. 

 

Qualifications and Skills:

Education:

Bachelor's degree in education, TESOL, or a related field is often required. 

 

Certifications:

ESL or TESOL certification is often preferred or required. 

 

Experience:

Prior teaching experience, particularly in ESL or English Language Learner (ELL) programs, is often preferred. 

 

Skills:

  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills. 

 

  • Ability to work effectively with diverse learners. 

 

  • Knowledge of second language acquisition theories and methodologies. 

 

  • Proficiency in using technology and multimedia in instruction. 

 

  • Ability to create and implement engaging lesson plans. 

 

  • Strong assessment and feedback skills.
