Licensed child therapist

Triquetra Counseling is seeking a full-time licensed child therapist to join our practice with the opportunity of an in person or hybrid position! The clinician will be an Independent Contractor (1099), and compensation ranges from 60- 70% of the visit rate, depending on licensure status.

About the Role

We are seeking a compassionate, dedicated, and ethically grounded Child Therapist to join our team. The ideal candidate will have expertise in child development, therapeutic play techniques, and ethical considerations in therapy. As a Child Therapist, you will provide therapeutic support to children in need, helping them work through emotional, behavioral, or psychological challenges through play-based or other therapeutic interventions. You will be expected to adhere to ethical standards in therapy while ensuring a safe, nurturing environment for children and their families.

Key Responsibilities:

  1. Assessment and Diagnosis:
    • Conduct comprehensive assessments of children's emotional, behavioral, and psychological needs.
    • Develop treatment plans based on therapeutic techniques and the child's individual needs.

       
  2. Therapeutic Sessions:
    • Implement and guide therapy sessions using a range of techniques, such as directive and non-directive play, art therapy, sandtray therapy, trauma informed therapy and more.
    • Use play or other evidence based interventions to help children express emotions, develop coping skills, and address past trauma.
  3. Confidentiality and Ethical Practice:
    • Uphold the highest ethical standards in all therapeutic practices, including maintaining client confidentiality, respecting boundaries, and practicing cultural humility.
    • Ensure that the therapy setting is safe and free of harm, adhering to legal and ethical guidelines as set by licensing boards, professional organizations, and the law.
  4. Collaboration:
    • Work collaboratively with families, teachers, and other professionals to understand the child’s background and progress.
    • Provide psychoeducation to parents and caregivers to support the child’s development outside of therapy sessions.
  5. Documentation and Reporting:
    • Maintain accurate, timely, and confidential records of each session, including progress notes, treatment plans, and updates.
    • Write reports for legal, educational, or medical purposes as required, adhering to professional guidelines and ethics.
  6. Professional Development:
    • Stay up to date with the latest developments in child therapy, ethical practices, and therapy techniques.
    • Participate in ongoing training, supervision, and peer consultations to enhance therapeutic skills and ensure ethical practice.

Skills and Competencies:

  • Deep understanding of child development and therapeutic techniques.
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills, including the ability to build rapport with children and families.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a multidisciplinary team.
  • Sensitivity to cultural, social, and economic factors affecting therapy.
  • Strong organizational skills and attention to detail.

 

Qualifications of ideal candidates include:

  • A Master's Degree or PhD in Social Work, Psychology, Counseling, or a related field.
  • A current, valid license to practice in the state of North Carolina, such as LCSW(A), LMFT(A),  LCMHC(A), or licensed psychologist. Preference will be given to fully-licensed applicants.
  • Carry personal liability insurance.
  • Advanced graduate or post-graduate training and/or lived experience in issues related to race, gender identity, and other areas of marginalization.
  • Training/certification in specialized modalities, such as EMDR, IFS, EFT, TF-CBT, etc., preferred.
  • Bilingual, particularly in English/Spanish, preferred.
