SUNY Cortland invites applications for an on-site, in-person, full-time Lead Programmer/Analyst to join a talented technical team responsible for advancing the university’s Student Information System (SIS). Reporting to the Assistant Director of Information Systems, this role serves as a key technical resource for maintaining and supporting integrations with the Banner ERP system and other university systems.

The Lead Programmer/ Analyst will architect, implement, and manage cloud-based and on-premise software solutions, performing complex analytical and programming tasks, including system and interface support. This role involves designing, analyzing, and developing programs to maintain, modify, and enhance existing administrative applications while using a variety of development tools to provide updates and inquiry access to academic and administrative data. The successful candidate will explore and evaluate emerging technologies for potential implementation, train team members on their use, and develop technical standards for these technologies. Additionally, the Lead Programmer Analyst will provide technical consultation to the Assistant Director, project leaders, managers, and departments.

This position requires the ability to author reports, workflows, integrations, and interactive web applications using technologies such as SQL, JSON, REST APIs, iPaaS, and JavaScript. The analyst will collaborate with end users to design and update applications that meet evolving requirements and deliver data and applications in alignment with departmental standards. Maintaining and regularly reviewing a central repository of documentation—including program development, logic, coding, testing, changes, modifications, and execution instructions—is a critical responsibility. The analyst must also stay updated on IT industry's best practices, technologies, architectures, and security standards.

Required Qualifications:

  • Associates Degree
  • 2 or more years of programming experience
  • Experience with relational database systems and authoring SQL statements
  • Experience writing, testing, debugging computer programs and writing program documentation utilizing current methods of analysis, design, programming (including SQL and PL/SQL), installation, testing, debugging, and documentation
  • Professional experience working with and producing reports, dashboard and data visualization within an enterprise reporting systems such as Evisions Argos, Crystal Reports, Tableau and Microsoft Dynamics
  • Experience establishing and maintaining effective working relationships with other IT staff, end users, and vendors

Preferred Qualifications: 

  • Bachelor’s Degree
  • Experience with Oracle or other Enterprise RDBMS
  • Experience working in a large, complex organization
  • Experience working with Banner Student systems
  • Experience with Linux and Shell scripting
  • Experience working within federal, state, business and unit policies regarding appropriate use of information including the handling of confidential and restricted data ("FERPA", "PII", etc.)
