Education Intern
About Us: At Above & Beyond Children’s Museum, our mission is to foster exploration, imagination, and joy through immersive play. The Education Intern supports our mission through the development and facilitation of educational programs and activities in the museum environment. This role includes assisting with educational programs/initiatives, exhibition projects, programmatic prep, community outreach, and educational events. The intern collaborates closely with the Education Department to promote early learning and engage children and families in creative, meaningful ways.
Your Impact
- Inspire curiosity through summer camps that transform classroom concepts into hands-on discoveries
- Create engaging activities where children can explore, question, and grow through play-based learning
- Design meaningful Wonder Workshops that spark "aha!" moments and foster creative thinking
- Extend our museum's educational mission through community outreach programs that connect with families
- Support an environment where every child feels empowered to learn, explore, and imagine without limits
Core Responsibilities
- Community Outreach: Participate in the implementation of outreach initiatives, including Play is Healing programming, designed to support families and community partners.
- Facilitate and coordinate Wonder Workshop activities and "Invitation to Play Kits" for the museum.
- Assist with weekend and/or evening special events and community outreach activities as needed.
- Gather materials and resources necessary for classes and programs.
- Act as support for the Education Team by contributing to program development and research.
- Additional duties as assigned by the Director of Education & Community Programming.
Your Superpowers
- A passion for inspiring children through creative, educational experiences
- Currently pursuing education in early childhood, elementary education, arts, or bringing equivalent real-world experience to the table (preferred)
- Natural talent for organizing engaging activities and managing time effectively
- Ability to shine both independently and as part of our collaborative museum team
- Experience connecting with children in classroom or informal learning settings
- Understanding of how children grow and learn at different stages
- Gift for communicating ideas clearly and enthusiastically to various audiences
- Flexibility to adapt on the fly when young explorers take learning in unexpected directions
Physical Requirements
- Regular walking, standing, sitting, moving throughout the museum, and engaging with children at their level by kneeling
- Occasional lifting up to 25 pounds
- Working in a lively, moderately noisy environment
- Reasonable accommodations available for qualified individuals with disabilities
