
Director of Public Works
Job Summary
The Director of Public Works is a key leadership position responsible for overseeing the planning, development, and maintenance of public infrastructure and services within the community. This role requires a strategic thinker with strong management skills to ensure that public works projects are executed efficiently, effectively, and in compliance with applicable regulations. The Director will collaborate with various stakeholders, including government officials, community members, and contractors, to enhance the quality of life for residents through sustainable public works initiatives.
Duties
- Lead and manage all aspects of the Public Works Department, including engineering, construction, maintenance, and operations.
- Develop and implement policies and procedures to improve departmental efficiency and effectiveness.
- Oversee the planning and execution of public works projects such as roads, bridges, water supply systems, and waste management.
- Ensure compliance with local, state, and federal regulations related to public works.
- Manage departmental budgets and resources to achieve project goals while maintaining fiscal responsibility.
- Foster relationships with community stakeholders to gather input on public works initiatives and address concerns.
- Conduct regular assessments of infrastructure needs and prioritize projects based on community requirements.
- Supervise staff, providing guidance and support for professional development opportunities.
- Utilize tools such as an Ohmmeter for electrical assessments related to public infrastructure.
Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in Civil Engineering, Public Administration, or a related field; Master’s degree preferred.
- Proven experience in public works management or a similar role within municipal government or private sector.
- Strong knowledge of engineering principles, construction practices, and project management methodologies.
- Excellent leadership skills with the ability to motivate teams and drive results.
- Effective communication skills for interacting with diverse groups including government officials and community members.
- Proficiency in using technical tools such as an Ohmmeter for evaluating electrical systems within public infrastructure.
- Ability to analyze complex problems and develop strategic solutions.
- Commitment to promoting sustainability in public works initiatives.

Compensation & Benefits
The salary range for this position is $90,190 - $129,312, commensurate with education and
experience.
