Literacy Interventionist

Position Summary:Atlas Elementary seeks a passionate and skilled Literacy Interventionist to provide targeted reading support to small groups of students. Using the CKLA and HD Word curricula, the Literacy Interventionist will play a vital role in helping students build foundational reading skills, ensuring they meet grade-level expectations. This position involves close collaboration with teachers, data-driven instruction, and contributing to schoolwide literacy goals to foster a love for reading and improve literacy outcomes.

 

Key Responsibilities:

 

  1. Deliver Targeted Literacy Support:
    • Provide structured phonics instruction to small groups of students using CKLA or HD Word curriculum.
    • Address skill gaps in phonics, decoding, and foundational reading through systematic and evidence-based practices.
  2. Use Data to Drive Instruction:
    • Analyze literacy assessment data (e.g., CKLA Skills assessments, MAP Fluency, CORE Phonics, AimswebPlus) to identify students for intervention and monitor progress.
    • Adjust lesson plans and instructional strategies based on individual student needs.
  3. Collaborate with Classroom Teachers:
    • Partner with classroom teachers to ensure alignment between intervention strategies and core classroom instruction.
    • Provide feedback and recommendations to support student literacy development in all settings.
  4. Monitor Progress and Maintain Records:
    • Conduct regular progress monitoring and document student growth using school-approved tools and systems.
    • Share progress updates with teachers, leadership, and families to ensure all stakeholders are informed and engaged.
  5. Engage and Motivate Students:
    • Create a supportive and engaging learning environment to boost student confidence and enthusiasm for reading.
    • Employ diverse instructional strategies to address various learning styles.
  6. Participate in Professional Development:
    • Engage in ongoing training to enhance expertise in phonics instruction, the Science of Reading, and intervention best practices.
    • Actively contribute to professional learning communities and team discussions focused on literacy.
  7. Support Family Engagement:
    • Communicate regularly with families about student progress and strategies to support literacy at home.
    • Provide resources and guidance to strengthen the home-school connection in literacy development.
  8. Contribute to Schoolwide Literacy Goals:
    • Participate in planning and implementing schoolwide initiatives to promote literacy and a culture of reading.
    • Assist in literacy-focused events, campaigns, or activities that support school goals.

 

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Education, Reading, or a related field (Master’s degree preferred).
  • Teaching certification required; reading endorsement, specialized literacy certification, or special education certification is a plus.
  • Minimum of 3 years of teaching experience with a focus on literacy instruction.
  • Strong knowledge of the Science of Reading, structured literacy instruction, and evidence-based intervention strategies.
  • Proficiency in using literacy assessment tools and data to drive instruction.
  • Excellent communication and collaboration skills to work effectively with students, staff, and families.
  • Commitment to fostering an inclusive and engaging learning environment for all students.
