Network Systems Engineer

Classified Specialist - Network Systems Engineer - Technology - Papillion La Vista Community Schools 
 

Full Time: 260 days/12 Months

Hours: 8:00am to 4:00pm Monday-Friday. Some after hours (night/weekend) work is necessary. This is an in-person, non remote position.

Salary Range: $65,000 - $85,000

Job Summary: The Network Engineer plays a critical role in ensuring the smooth and efficient operation of the district's network and infrastructure systems across all facilities. This position is responsible for the design, implementation, maintenance, security, and support of the district's network infrastructure, including wired and wireless networks, servers, security systems, and related hardware and software. The Network Engineer serves on the District’s Network Infrastructure Team, collaborating with other members to support, plan, execute, and problem-solve various projects and issues.


Qualifications: Degree and/or related experience in Computer Science or Networking. Cisco Certified Network Associate (CCNA) or comparable industry certification is required. Related experience in network management, server management and cybersecurity required Proficiency in Network Access Control and device administration. Scripting skills, ability to create code in various languages (e.g. Python, PowerShell, etc.) Excellent computer skills, oral and written communication skills.

Responsibilities:

  • Regular, dependable attendance is an essential function of this position. Some after hours (night/weekend) work is necessary.
  • Ability to maintain a high level of confidentiality.
  • Coordinating, scheduling and leading upgrade projects
  • Reporting network status to key stakeholders.
  • Develops, implements, and documents a backup plan for recovery of data on servers in the event of a disaster or unintentional loss.
  • Performing disaster recovery operations and data backups when required.
  • Conferring with network users about solving existing system problems.
  • Server administration and upgrades (both physical and virtual).
  • Ensure proper network and endpoint operation for district and state electronic testing. CCTV system engineering, configuration and maintenance
  • Configure and maintain security system network, cameras, authentication, door access, video and storage.
  • Communicate with supervisor(s) on a regular basis.
  • Updates job knowledge by participating in educational opportunities, reading professional publications, and participating in professional organizations as applicable.
  • Collaborate with Network Team Member(s) and department leaders to assess near- and long-term network capacity needs.
  • Work with Network Team Member(s) to carry out team tasks and goals.
  • Engineers, architects and manages (i.e. design, develop, implement, manage, maintain and monitor) all district networks. This includes designing the wired and wireless local area networks as well as the district’s wide area networks. This also includes the ability to take network/systems related concepts from ideas to implementation.
  • Works with other team members in the technology, business, curriculum and human resources departments to maintain employee and student accounts with applicable life cycle policies.
  • Implements and maintains identity management and single sign on environment for all district users.
  • Package and distribute software through district software distribution services. Designs, deploys and maintains the telephone systems (including VLAN, hardware, etc..) Provides infrastructure support for Security, Enterprise, and Student Applications.
  • Perform and maintain OS upgrades to district Windows, Apple, and Chrome devices. Test and configure necessary components to support major OS upgrades for Windows, Apple, and Chrome devices.
  • Ensure the operation and maintenance of server backups, malware/virus protection, e-mail, web filtering, SPAM filtering and other related services.
  • Define security requirements, identify vulnerabilities and implement remediation plans.
  • Engineer, implement, and monitor security measures for the protection of computer systems, cloud platforms, and third party software.
  • Ensure the operations and maintenance of district firewalls and related security appliances, including remote/VPN access.
  • Utilizes the district’s device management platforms to maintain and manage the district’s device fleets.
  • Looks for and recommends improvements to increase efficiency across various district systems to improve resource utilization and maintain clean, operational systems.
  • Ability to work in a team environment while being student and team oriented. Assist in supporting the district’s data and technology teams goals as needed.
  • Assign, route, and monitor open tickets via helpdesk software and phone calls.
  • Support and assist in evaluating hardware purchase processes. Support coverage of buildings as needed.
  • Attends external meetings as needed.
  • Designing and implementing new network/infrastructure systems.
  • Design, implement, support, maintain and improve the district’s network/infrastructure systems, including documentation for internal use as well as training documentation.
  • Other duties as assigned.
