Summary:
Our Summer internship allows college students to learn our industry, right where the action takes place. This will be a hands-on experience for students, to learn the industry from the ground-up. You’ll work alongside some of the best in our business. This a great opportunity for students with minimal or no industry experience to gain first-hand knowledge.
Reporting to the Laboratory Manager, the Chemist Intern will learn the functional support in the quality lab at the Magnesia Specialties Chemical district. As the leading producer of high purity magnesium oxide, magnesium hydroxide and dolomitic lime products, which are used in a variety of environmental, industrial, chemical, and specialty applications, we offer a variety of experiences.
Key Responsibilities:
- Must be safety conscious, dependable, and motivated. Will take an active role in the company’s safety initiatives
- Must be a self-motivated, strong work ethic individual that is willing to work with minimal supervision
- Support R&D Projects: Contribute to the completion of one or two key projects within Research and Development (R&D)
- Applied Research: Work with project teams to solve chemical and material-related problems through both fundamental and applied research
- Hands-On Experience: Gain practical, hands-on experience in a laboratory setting
- Network: Develop your network within the company and gain insights into our culture and career opportunities
- Problem Solving: Contribute to innovative solutions that drive progress
- Projects: Projects range from product to process development and application innovation
- Assist with completion of basic laboratory tasks, organizing files, inventory, working on spreadsheets and data entry
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
- Currently pursuing a bachelor’s degree in chemistry
- High-level verbal and written communication skills; interpersonal skills
- Ability to use Microsoft Office applications
- Capable of working in a laboratory and office environment where sitting, standing, kneeling, or bending for long periods of time may be required.
- Ability to wear PPE while in the laboratory and meet plant requirements
