Position Title: Gallery Attendant and Social Media Intern
Hours: Part-time, hourly, maximum 20 hours per week
Compensation: This is a paid position through the Community Impact Internship Program at UWGB
Job Summary: The Gallery Attendant/Social Media Intern will represent The Art Garage both in person, and be guided in representing the Gallery online. It is a position that requires an interest in graphic and web design, visual art mediums, and in understanding social media trends and etiquette. This position requires face-to-face interaction with the general public, and with our artists, so we are seeking someone who isn’t hesitant to engage and communicate well with others. Depending on your interest and focus, there are opportunities to assist with gallery maintenance and exhibition installations, or to focus efforts on developing our brand through social media marketing, under the direction of our staff or a faculty member.
Tasks
• Attend the front desk during open gallery hours and opening receptions
• Greet visitors, describe current exhibitions, and answer questions
• Assist in photographing artwork to update on social media and web pages
• Work closely with the staff to create visual digital assets for online use
• Operate the cash register and point of sale software
• Maintain gallery visitor counts
• Update inventory for gallery gift shop and sales daily
• Update gallery exhibition sales information daily
• Assist with artwork drop off and pick up during exhibition changeover
• Contact buyers at the end of an exhibition to coordinate pick up or artwork shipping
• Update social media and local event calendars with upcoming exhibitions, events, etc.
• Kindly and professionally greet guests both in person and on the phone
• Answer emails in a professional and timely manner, and handle correspondence with other organizations, artists, and customers
• Work successfully with staff and volunteers and always represent The Art Garage in a professional and positive manner
• Assist staff in other duties as pertaining to social media or gallery representation
• Assist in tasks regarding installation and striking gallery exhibitions
Job Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

• A background in customer service, retail sales, communications, media management, arts management, studio arts, graphic design or similar area
• Proficiency in Microsoft Office including Outlook, Word, and Excel, as well as Google Workspace Platforms, and the demonstrated ability to learn other programs such as Shopify, Airtable, Constant Contact, etc.
• Experience with Adobe Suite (such as Photoshop, Illustrator, etc) and/or Canva or other design platforms
• Proficiency in social media platforms such as Facebook, Instagram, and Twitter
• Excellent written and oral communication skills
• Ability to think creatively
• Detail-oriented, with strong interpersonal skills
• Ability to prioritize, anticipate issues, initiate processes, all while managing ongoing tasks
• Comfortable with primarily stationary work and occasional lifting/moving up to 25 lbs
• Work well with volunteers and treat all clients, volunteers, guests, and other employees in a courteous and respectful manner while maintaining a cooperative atmosphere for everyone
• An understanding of expectations for museum-quality work and arts or nonprofit management is a plus
• Knowledge of and participation in Northeast Wisconsin arts community helpful
