Groundwater Mapping Specialist - Seasonal

Job Summary

Do you have an interest in groundwater, geology, hydrology, GIS mapping, and solid waste management? This is a great opportunity to gain valuable experience.  This is a seasonal position responsible for assisting the County’s Hydrogeologist in compiling and organizing groundwater data for ArcGIS Pro uploading and creating interactive groundwater maps.  

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

The following duties are normal for this position.  These duties are not to be construed as exclusive or all-inclusive.   Other duties may be required and assigned.

 

Groundwater Data:

 

  • Export groundwater data tables in Adobe Acrobat into Microsoft Excel.
  • Compile and organize groundwater data for ArcGIS Pro uploading.
  • Obtain latitude/longitude of well points using Minnesota Well Index and/or convert from Northing/Easting.

 

 

  Arc GIS Pro:

 

  • Georeference historical maps to a new base layer
  • Create a layer for each year of groundwater data.

 

ArcGIS Experience Builder:

 

  • Assist in developing interactive maps of groundwater data.

 

Field Events:  

  • Attend field activities related to the project and other solid waste events as required.

 

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities Required

 

Ability to use ArcGIS Pro, Adobe Acrobat, and Microsoft Office 365 products. 

 

Ability to be a self-starter.

Excellent interpersonal communication skills.

Comfortable with public speaking and presenting to a group. 

Minimum Qualifications

An individual must meet the minimum qualifications as stated below to qualify for this position.

 

At least 1 year of undergraduate classes in environmental, hydrology, water resources, geology, earth science, geography, or similar.    

At least 2 classes in GIS

Supplemental Information

This is a seasonal position, meaning it is limited to 67 working days per calendar year.
Regular hours are 8-4:30 Monday - Friday.  Work schedule days and hours are flexible based on candidate's availability.
