Student Assistant- Building Services PFOC

Position Summary: The University of Akron is seeking a responsible and independent Student Assistant to support the Physical Facilities Operations Center (PFOC) team. This position will primarily focus on cleaning and maintaining student housing, including dorm rooms and common areas. The ideal candidate will be self-motivated, detail-oriented, and dedicated to maintaining cleanliness and sanitation in residence halls. The role requires working independently to ensure rooms and common spaces are thoroughly cleaned and sanitized to meet university standards.

Key Details:

  • Start/End Date: May 12th - August 24th
  • Days/Shift: Monday - Friday, 6:30 AM – 3:00 PM
  • Pay: $12 per hour
  • Hours per Week: Up to 29 hours per week
  • Start Date: Flexible; students can begin earlier if available

Job Responsibilities:

  • Cleaning Student Housing: Clean floors, carpets, hallways, and bathrooms in unoccupied rooms across campus student housing buildings.
  • Dorm Room Cleaning: Clean and sanitize unoccupied dorm rooms, including floors, carpets, furniture, and bathrooms.
  • General Cleaning: Maintain cleanliness in common areas of dormitories, including wiping surfaces, emptying trash, and ensuring proper sanitation.
  • Disinfection: Regularly disinfect high-touch points in dorm rooms, such as doorknobs, light switches, and bathroom fixtures.
  • Independent Work: Work independently with minimal supervision to ensure high standards of cleanliness and sanitation are met.
  • Other Tasks: Assist with cleaning other areas of campus as required and adhere to health and safety protocols.

Qualifications/Requirements:

  • Academic Requirement: Must fulfill all Student Employment eligibility requirements.
  • Physical Stamina: Ability to stand for long periods, work with cleaning chemicals, and travel between campus buildings.
  • Independent Worker: Must manage time efficiently and work autonomously.
  • Prior Experience: Previous cleaning experience is a plus, but not required.
  • Shift Requirement: Availability to work the 6:30 AM - 3:00 PM shift.

 

All University of Akron student employees must meet the designated minimum standards as stated on the Student Employment Eligibility Chart. UA student employees must be 18 years or older at the time of their start date. Any approved remote work conducted by student employees MUST be performed within the state of Ohio.
