Financial Accountant - Freestone Re
Freestone Re, a subsidiary of American National Insurance, is seeking to hire two full-time, Financial Reporting Accountant team members. Onsite Placement Location: Houston, Texas
What will you do:
- Assist with financial reporting in accordance with US GAAP for the offshore reinsurance business, and reporting group
- Assist in the implementation of all aspects of the financial reporting functions, including implementation of processes, tools, and systems to assess, measure, manage, monitor, and report on results
- Partner with internal audit teams to ensure financial reporting SOX controls are designed and implemented appropriately
- Assist with the preparation and filing of statutory reports on a timely basis
- Liaise with various stakeholder groups, both externally (auditors, administrators, cedants) and internally
- Assist in the preparation of various analyses, reports, and presentations for senior management and the board of directors to support decision making
Qualifications:
- A recognized professional accounting designation (CPA, CA)
- Three to five (3-5) years of progressive work experience in an accounting or auditing function
- Experience with financial reporting and/or auditing (re)insurance companies under US GAAP strongly preferred
- Ability to travel (Bermuda, Cayman Islands, Canada)
- Availability to work hours outside of normal business operations, during peak periods
- Judgement, critical thinking, and strong quantitative and analytical skills combined with attention to detail and thoroughness, with the ability to assess complex situations and make effective recommendations
- Strong interpersonal written and verbal communication skills
- Self-motivated and proactive with the ability to operate independently and willingness to own and improve processes
- Organizational skills to effectively manage priorities, multi-task where necessary, work well under pressure, meet timelines, and the ability to deal professionally with internal and external stakeholders
- Interest in continuous improvement of our processes and controls
- Can work in a dynamic, complex, fast-paced environment, adapting quickly to manage changing priorities and deadlines
- High degree of professional ethics and integrity
- Experience with Dynamics, Workiva and Clearwater is a plus
