Student Unions Event Staff (STDT2)

HIRING DEPT:  MEMORIAL UNION

 

SALARY:  

Base Salary:  $16.75/hr.  Added differentials depending on area(s) worked during shift.

  • $.25 Difficulty in Recruiting differential will be added to the Memorial Union and Student Community Center shifts.

 

Objective: We are hiring for the 2025-2026 academic year, with work starting September 10, 2025. Staff can start immediately in 2025 Spring Quarter upon hire date to train prior to leaving for the Summer if schedule aligns, or to work throughout the 2025 Summer. Summer work is available and optional but requires a commitment to the academic year. Mandatory training will be held September 10-12 and September 15-16 in Davis. Attendance at all sessions is required. 

Job Purpose:

Under the direction of departmental professional staff and the Building Manager, the Event Staff, provides production & event support for all special events at the event venues within the Student Unions Team. This includes the Memorial Union and the Student community Center.  At the Memorial Union and SCC they are responsible for supporting all the special events. This position provides customer service to all clients and event attendees, and sets up/breaks down all event equipment. This position requires variable work hours, to be determined according to the event schedule. 

 

 Duties:

  • This position report to 2 different work sites. Memorial Union and Student Community Center. 
  • Provide excellent customer service to clients and guests.
  • Set up and strike equipment, including but not limited to chairs, tables, lecterns, signage, and stanchions, for all special events and meetings in and around the two venues.
  • Ensure event rooms are clean and set-up in a timely manner.
  • Provide audio/visual support for events and meetings, including but not limited to setting up projectors, laptops, lighting and sound equipment.
  • Assist with maintaining event equipment and facilities.
  • Responsible for opening and closing meeting and event rooms and ensuring all audio visual and other valuable equipment are stored and secured after use. 
  • Ensure a safe environment for staff and event attendees by following department safety policies and procedures, and complying with UC Davis Fire Department rules and regulations.
  • Monitor all rooms for capacity and other safety related items.
  • Maintain cleanliness in the Memorial Union and Student Community Center meeting rooms. 
  • Additional duties as assigned by Career Staff

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Ability to set up and take down equipment for events
  • Ability to communicate in a professional manner and demonstrate diplomacy when dealing with difficult people.
  • Must be able to respond quickly and responsibly in emergency situations
  • Must be self-motivated, punctual and dependable.
  • Must be able to take direction and implement tasks in a timely and professional manner
  • Must be able to work flexible hours including early mornings, late evenings, weekends and some holidays. 
  • Must be able to work on Picnic Day and through graduation weekend unless graduating (includes both December & June ceremonies).
  • Must have interpersonal and customer service skills to clearly communicate in person, through email, and over the phone with a wide variety of individuals
  • Must be able to lift and maneuver objects weighing up to 50lbs.
  • Must be available to attend mandatory training sessions/orientations.
  • Must be a registered student at UC Davis.
  • Must have a minimum of 3 quarters remaining as a student.

Differential

  • A $.25 differential is added to equal $16.75 pay for the Memorial Union and Student Community Center shifts
