position overview:  Achieve Brown County welcomes interns to work with us during spring, fall and summertime periods with opportunities to specialize in data analysis, data visualization (Power BI), data research and other special data projects that support our mission and work or the Partners involved with our work. As a small nonprofit, you’ll have the opportunity to work with and meet everyone on our team. You’ll work with us Monday-Friday between the hours of 8:00-4:30pm. We are flexible to offer both onsite and offsite time – our whole team is hybrid, and we’ll work around your school and work schedule.

responsibilities:         

When interning at Achieve Brown County, we want to offer an experience in which you learn and shadow as well as actively contribute to our mission and growth as an organization. Primary responsibilities will include:

  • Learns and understands the mission, vision, purpose, and goals of Achieve Brown County, StriveTogether and Collective Impact.
  • Attends staff meetings and rotates through our departments to learn the responsibilities of each team member and provides ideas or suggestions to improve our operations.
  • Completes focused projects which may require research, proposing ideas/solutions, and presenting your project to staff or committees. 
    • Examples:
      • Data Management & Analysis: Assist with the collection, cleaning, and organization of large datasets, analyze data to generate insights, and support the tracking of program outcomes and community impact.
      • Data Visualization: Help to design and maintain dashboards, reports, and visualizations using tools such as Excel, Power BI, or Python.
      • Supporting Research Efforts: Contribute to research projects, such as finding up-to-date data points that support cradle-to-career outcomes.
      • Grant Reporting and Fundraising Support: Contribute to the preparation of data-driven reports for grant applications, donor updates, and fundraising efforts.
      • Technical Documentation: Assist in preparing and updating technical documentation to maintain clarity and consistency.
      •  Survey & Data Collection: Assist in data collection efforts, including conducting interviews, designing questionnaires, and analyzing responses. 
  • Provides suggestions to management for improving internal or external processes.
  • Learn and become proficient on internal software systems.
  • Assists in regular weekly tasks related to specialization.
    • Examples:
      • Meeting Coordination & Notetaking: Assist with scheduling, coordinating logistics, and capturing key notes during meetings to ensure accurate documentation and follow-up on action items.
      • Collaboration and Communication: Attends staff meetings to collaborate with the team, stay informed about organizational goals, and contribute ideas to discussions.
      • Learn and use Little Green Light (CRM) for data management, including updating records and adding notes.

education & experience

  • Must be currently enrolled in a college or university, preferably pursuing a degree in Data Science, Computer Science, or a related field.
  • Strong enthusiasm for learning and applying data analysis tools, such as Python and Power BI. Prior experience with these tools is a plus but not required.
  • Strong interest in working in the nonprofit sector and using data to create positive social impact.
  • Self-motivated, with the ability to work independently and collaboratively as part of a team.
