Job Purpose
Associate Director oversees, develops, implements, budgets, and evaluates existing and new leadership development programs in collaboration with the Sr. Associate Director of the Higdon Center. Supports the Center’s mission by providing programs that create opportunities for student involvement and learning through individual and group leadership activities. As needed, stands in for the Executive Director to represent and speak for Student Leadership in various environments across campus and within the external Charleston community.
Minimum Requirements
Bachelor’s degree and at least 3 years of relevant professional experience in student services programs; Master’s degree in Higher Education Administration, Student Personnel, or Leadership strongly preferred. Experience working with student programs in a higher education environment is preferred. Requires experience in public speaking and with using computer desktop publishing software and MS Office. Candidates with an equivalent combination of experience and/or education are encouraged to apply.
Required Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
Working knowledge of leadership topics; principles, policies & practices of small and large event planning; relevant laws, regulations, policies & organizational functions. Ability to effectively prioritize, plan, and organize work and tasks to meet goals and deadlines. Ability to train others as needed. Ability to be courteous and deal effectively with all personnel and the public. Knowledge of FERPA student privacy regulations necessary
Additional Comments Regarding Position
Requires some nights and weekends work.

1. Develops, delegates, and oversees production of all yearly series of leadership development events/workshops for the Leadership CofC program for juniors & seniors. Schedules and organizes each event (approximately 9 per academic year) to ensure all logistics are met. Meets with various community leaders to solicit their participation in the Leadership CofC series. Reviews and recommends applicants for the program by coordinating recruitment and interview process. Assesses program outcomes and makes recommendations on modifications and enhancements.

2. Coordinate the expansion, development, and implementation of leadership engagement programming, services, trainings, and resources for all College of Charleston Students. Incorporate best practices in leadership programming. Recruit, facilitate, and advise participants in leadership programs. Coordinate logistics, speaker selection, registration, and program assessments.

3. Coordinates Cougar Excursion, the first-year student leadership retreat. Advises the Cougar Excursion Executive Board as they plan, implement, and execute the weekend retreat. Secures retreat site, transportation, and registration logistics. Oversees yearly curriculum review. Awards the Emily Salsbury Scholarship.

4. Manages schedule and all requests for outside departmental and student presentations, seminars, workshops, self-assessment instruments and/or retreats on a variety of leadership topics as needed. Participates in collaborative programs, initiatives and projects that are implemented with other departments or other student leadership programs/events as needed. Provide individual and group coaching to students regarding leadership development. Serves on various committees, representing Student Involvement, as needed.

5. Provide budgetary support to Sr. Associate Director for the program budget allocation and ensuring fiscal discipline, compliance with College and State regulations. Provides accurate record keeping, support in developing budgets for Student Leadership programs, and seeks out additional funding resources to support leadership programs including co-sponsorships.
