Internship Project

Dono Vivo LLC Internship Project

Goal: To create additional salable products from the now “waste” generated from the production of finished human biological products, for example plasma.

Needs/Considerations of projects:

  • The intern working on this project should be comfortable handling human biologicals and preferably be vaccinated against Hepatitis B; a waiver is otherwise required.
  • Understand what work has been done to date in the investigation into creating additional products to achieve the goal
  • Research and document the process and limiting factors of extracting additional derivatives from whole blood collections
  • Assess tools and or knowledge needed for success
  • Propose and test solutions to create additional products given the limiting factors
  • Work with the collection team to plan and execute the process(es) by which the extractions will be tested and refined
  • Articulate the
    • Tools required
    • Labor required
    • Additional raw materials required
    • Volume produced by unit on average
    • Shelf life
    • Protocol for future lab members to use for production
  • Work with leadership to ensure tools and skills are present
  • Determine total cost 
    • If exclusively collected from the whole blood
    • If collected from the remnants of a plasma production
  • Assess volume requirements to sustain Innovative Research total production needs by working with the customer service and purchasing teams
  • Work to identify:
    • What % of total requirements can be achieved through internal processing
    • What should be planned and at what rate
    • How the product should be described
    • Any unique characteristics of the product to highlight
    • Any shipping restrictions (any international issues to consider)
    • Value of the collection
    • Delivery schedule for shipping/order fulfillment
    • Alternatively – Indicate why one or more of the derivatives cannot be produced with data to support
    • How the new derivative should be recognized and recorded in LIMS
    • Any marketing to be done to reinforce its availability
  • Present at the end of your time your experience, what went well, what didn’t, and what you take away for the time with Innovative Research.
