Design Engineer Intern / Manufacturing Intern - Summer 2025

DESCRIPTION:

We're a popular consumer products company building innovative products for the home! One of our biggest products is Clocky, the popular alarm clock that runs away beeping.  Check us out at www.clocky.com and new products you work on will be part of our larger umbrella consumer brand.

We are designing new products for launch this year. We would love to bring on an intern to help with mechanical engineering of our product design process. Does the idea of growing with a company that creates highly innovative consumer products, becoming a critical member of its team appeal to you? Our interns only work on projects that will be used in the real world.

You will gain valuable experience working with our senior level team and our factory. We are ultimately looking for students that have an interest in innovation, creativity, are smart and hungry to learn!

Throughout your experience, you'll stay connected with your advisors through various tools of communication, ensuring you have the guidance and support you need.

LEARNING OBJECTIVES:

  • The student will help build products, which they can include in their portfolio.
  • This training is similar to a  high level design
  • The student will receive mentor-ship from our CEO and Creative Director
  • The student will be able to sit in on team meetings and contribute ideas to high level development.
  • They are welcome to contribute their own ideas.
  • The student can gain experience in a field relevant to their major
  • The student will develop their professional communication skills and receive resume and cover letter support.

What You Will Do:

  • Design and Development: Develop innovative products, create detailed technical drawings, 3D models and specifications using CAD software. Collaborate with teams to ensure designs meet both functional and manufacturability requirements.
  • Manufacturing Optimization: Assist in evaluating and improving manufacturing processes to enhance efficiency, cost-effectiveness and quality. Analyze workflows, identify bottlenecks and propose improvements to streamline production.
  • Quality Control: Implement and maintain quality control processes to ensure products meet required standards. Conduct inspections, tests and audits during various stages of production to maintain quality assurance. Work closely with teams to address non-conformance issues and implement corrective actions.
  • Testing and Prototyping: Conduct simulations, prototyping and testing to validate product performance and safety. Provide detailed feedback and improvements based on test results.
  • Documentation and Reporting: Prepare and maintain technical documentation, including blueprints, BOMs, process guidelines and quality control reports. Ensure seamless communication between design, manufacturing and quality teams.
  • Continuous Improvement: Explore and implement new materials, tools and methods to enhance designs, manufacturing processes and quality assurance practices.

 

Technical Skills:

  • Expertise in CAD software for technical designs.
  • Familiarity with FEA tools and simulation software for design analysis.
  • Basic understanding of manufacturing processes (e.g., machining, molding, assembly).
  • Knowledge of quality control standards, tools and techniques (e.g., Six Sigma, ISO standards).
  • Analytical skills for troubleshooting and optimizing workflows.
  • Hands-on experience with testing equipment and prototyping methods.
  • Competence in documenting processes, workflows and quality assurance reports.
