Political Science Internship - Political Reporting Information Sharing
Be part of a National Team working together to protect freedom, democracy and individual civil liberties by gathering and reporting factual information about current and changing U.S. federal government political activities, proposed policies, laws, judicial actions, regulations, and events and share/present accurate and timely information in a digital format to inform the public.
This Political Science Internship is designed for individuals who have a keen interest in government operations. Internship activities involve deep investigative journalism, providing insightful analysis and covering political activities and events in all branches and agencies of the Federal Government.
The National Team includes an opportunity for ten (10) Interns selected from nationwide universities working together virtually. Interns are encouraged to express ideas and contribute to the team's success, learning to coordinate and collaborate, while gaining insights into the workings of government.
The ideal Interns will have a passion for political reporting and working as a team to track and report on political activities include producing compelling narratives that engage and inform the audience. Political reporting is providing factual news observations which differs from political columnists who generally express an opinion.
Internship Responsibilities Include:
- Collaborating closely with the National Team to develop engaging content, in-depth articles, and analytical reports, ensuring clarity and accuracy
- Utilize data journalism and research methodologies to support reporting efforts
- Stay abreast of political developments, issues, events and emerging trends delivering factual, timely and balanced news coverage
- Ability to write under tight deadlines while maintaining high standards of accuracy and integrity.
- Strong understanding of political processes, government structures and current affairs.
- Familiarity with data journalism and the ability to interpret and analyze complex datasets.
- Exceptional communication skills, both verbal and written.
- Work with an established network of political contacts and sources.
Technical Skills and Relevant Technologies:
- Proficient in or learning content management systems (CMS) and various digital tools for reporting and research.
- Experience with social media platforms for sourcing, verifying and validating stories and engaging with audiences
- Proficient in Microsoft Word, PowerPoint, Excel
- Desired, but not required - Website development skills
