Department Description:

The Testing, Evaluation, and Measurement Center (TEMC) is dedicated to supporting students, faculty, and the local community with testing and evaluation-related needs. The TEMC comprises four individual offices: Testing Lab Services; the Academic Testing for Students with Disabilities (ATSD) office; Scanning Services; and the Round Rock Testing Center. By providing a variety of testing and scanning options with specialized equipment in a secure testing environment, our goal is to support student persistence, reduce barriers to graduation, and support faculty research.

Job Description:

This position will directly support testing for New Student Orientations from May through August.  It may include a variety of activities including checking in students, proctoring exams, and participating in outreach during Browse sessions. 

Proctoring: 

Assist lab staff with:

  • Checking in examinees by checking for valid IDs and entering information on written test log.
  • Seating examinees with proper documents and allowable materials.
  • Monitoring testing students by frequent walk-throughs, and/or camera monitoring system.
  • Assisting navigating students from one location to testing location.
  • Printing exam reports after completion.
  • Collecting materials after students have completed exam.
  • Cleaning of testing area.

Check-in:

  • Ask students for their names and which sections they may need to test.
  • Assist students in completing the process of the pre-assessment and payment before testing.
  • Directing students to the testing location.

Outreach:

  • Attend Browse sessions and staff the TEMC table.
  • Speak to students and parents about the services the TEMC offers.
  • Answer questions regarding testing.

 

Hours: 

Minimum 15 hours per week, more available depending on applicant availability. You must be able to work throughout June and July. 

Availability Monday through Friday in at least 3-hour blocks between 8 AM and 5 PM.  NSO dates vary.  See https://www.admissions.txst.edu/admitted-students/nso/freshman.html for specific dates.

Employee evaluation process: The evaluation process for this position focuses on customer service, professionalism, punctuality, teamwork, and adherence to testing protocols. Supervisors assess proctors' ability to greet candidates, manage daily tasks without prompting, monitor screens effectively, and communicate with the team. Feedback is provided regularly, with formal evaluations conducted to ensure continuous improvement.

Payrate Determination: Starting pay is typically set at $10.00 hourly with opportunities for pay increases based on performance evaluations and length of service.
