Position: Environmental Science Research Mentor (Remote, Part-Time)
Job Description:
We are seeking PhD candidates (2nd year and above), PhD graduates, and postdoctoral researchers in environmental science to mentor high-achieving high school students in independent research projects OR academic competitions such as the John Locke Essay Competition.
🚨 No undergraduate or master’s students, please. Only doctoral-level applicants will be considered.
✅ Many students are ready to start immediately—we are actively looking for mentors who can begin soon!
✅ We provide structured lesson plans and guidance to ensure a smooth teaching experience for mentors.
Responsibilities:
- Research Mentorship: Guide high school students through environmental science research projects, including topic selection, literature review, data collection, field study design, and academic writing (24-hour total commitment).
- Essay Competition Coaching: Mentor high school students in writing competition essays (up to 2,000 words), providing structured feedback on argumentation, clarity, and coherence (20-hour total commitment).
Compensation:

Research Projects:
- PhD candidates, postdocs: $150/hour, 24 hours total
- Professors: $200+/hour

Essay Competition Mentorship:
- PhD candidates, postdocs: $100–$120/hour, 20 hours total
- Professors: $200+/hour
Qualifications:
✅ PhD candidate (2nd year and above), PhD graduate, or postdoc in environmental science or a closely related field
✅ Strong expertise in scientific research methodology, climate science, sustainability studies, and ecological analysis
✅ Excellent communication skills to guide high school students in critical thinking and independent research
✅ Prior experience in research supervision or competition coaching is not necessary but is a plus
