IT & Cybersecurity Internship

Responsibilities: 

  • Gain exposure to and knowledge of cybersecurity standards and guidance, such as:
    • Federal Information Security Modernization Act (FISMA)
    • National Institute of Standards and Technologies (NIST) Risk Management Framework (RMF)
    • NIST Cybersecurity Framework (CSF)
    • NIST Special Publication 800 Series
    • ISO/IEC 27001 Information Security Management
    • Department of Defense (DoD) Cybersecurity Maturity Model Certification (CMMC)
  • Perform information security and privacy risk analysis
  • Provide information security guidance to internal and external customers, aligning with applicable regulations and cybersecurity best practices regarding:
    • Continuous Diagnostics and Mitigation (CDM)
    • Identity and Access Management (IAM)
    • Threat Modeling
    • Data Loss Prevention (DLP)
    • Physical and Environmental Protection
    • Personnel Security
    • Intrusion Detection/Prevention Systems (IDS/IPS)
    • VPN
    • Security Architecture
    • Incident Management
  • Research emerging information security topics, tools, and techniques
  • Gain knowledge and experience of IT Helpdesk tier 1 support, such as
    • Technical support to end-users, including troubleshooting hardware and software issues, and assisting with system configurations.
    • Setup, installation, and maintenance of computer systems, networks, and peripherals.
    • Technology projects, such as software deployments, system upgrades, and network enhancements.
    • helpdesk tickets and inquiries, ensuring excellent customer service and prompt resolution of issues.
    • Administrative tasks in Microsoft 365 environments, such as Azure/Entra, Intune, SharePoint, and Teams.
    • Manage user and device accounts in the on-premise Active Directory and Microsoft Entra.
    • Maintain IT documentation, including user manuals, system configurations, and network diagrams.
    • Hardware inventory management
  • Participate in meetings and training sessions to expand knowledge and skills in various areas of technology
  • Perform additional duties as assigned

Requirements:

  • Currently a junior or senior of a Bachelor's program or in a Graduate program in Information Technology, Information Systems, Computer Science, Cybersecurity, or a related field
  • Exposure to Cybersecurity Fundamentals and basic understanding of computer hardware, operating systems, and networking concepts
  • Strong problem-solving and critical thinking skills
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to work effectively in a team environment
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office tools and basic troubleshooting techniques
  • Experience with computer hardware assembly, software installation, and system configuration is a plus
  • Ability to prioritize tasks and manage time efficiently in a fast-paced environment
  • Eagerness to gain hands-on experience and contribute to meaningful projects
  • Enthusiasm for IT, Cybersecurity, and a passion for technology-driven solutions
  • Must be local to the DMV area
  • This internship is primarily remote with occasional on-site duties in Windsor Mill, MD

The hourly rate for this position is $15.00 per hour. Actual compensation will depend on a range of factors, including but not limited to the individual’s skills, experience, qualifications, certifications, location, other business and organizational needs, and applicable employment laws. The estimate displayed represents the typical salary range for this position and is just one component of the total compensation package for employees.
