Athletic Trainer

ANTICIPATED START DATE: No later than July 1, 2025

 

LOCATION: Affton High School

 

DETAILS: 12-month support staff position starting in the 2024-25 school year, with district-recognized holidays and paid vacation, sick, and personal leave. Leave time will be prorated for the 2024-25 school year based on start date. This is a full-time, 40 hours per week position, with a district provided benefits package that includes employee health, dental, life and vision insurance.

 

COMPENSATION: According to the Off Schedule pay structure. The minimum salary for this position begins at $50,000/annually. Salary will be determined by like experience and education. 
 

 

JOB SUMMARY: Administer the sports medical program for Affton athletic programs and provide athletic training services to student athletes under the direction of the team physician or by written referral from a physician and in accordance with state athletic training practice act and school board policies and procedures.

 

QUALIFICATIONS:

 

1. Bachelor’s degree required.

2. Missouri State Board of Healing Arts license required.

3. Certified in Missouri by the Board of Certification, Inc (BOC) required.

4. Member of MAATA and MoATA or willingness to become a member required.

5. CPR and First Aid certification required.

6. Previous experience preferred.

7. Such modification of the above qualifications as the Board of Education shall deem appropriate.

 

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  1. Appropriate safety precautions to be used at all times while performing essential duties.
  2. Communicate with all stakeholders in an effective and timely manner. 
  3. Work collaboratively with other staff members. 
  4. Assume responsibility for the safe condition of all assigned areas and/or equipment operated. 
  5. Maintain a safe and orderly work environment. 
  6. Maintain confidentiality in accordance with applicable law and district policy. 
  7. Follow established district policy and procedure at all times. 
  8. Promptly attend all scheduled and called meetings.
  9. Participate in appropriate professional development activities to ensure that knowledge and skills are developed, enhanced or maintained.
  10. Develop and maintains a program of preventive physical care for Affton athletic teams in collaboration with coaches.  
  11. Models character traits of respect, commitment and responsibility in supervising student athletes.
  12. Evaluates physical condition and advises and treats student athletes to maintain maximum physical fitness for participation in athletic competition.  Prescribes routine and corrective exercises to strengthen muscles.
  13. Adheres to a highly efficient and technically sound program of injury prevention and follow up.
  14. Provides daily athletic trainer coverage for events, attends after-school practices, games, and tournaments as scheduled by the Activities Director.
  15.  Follows flexible schedule with afternoons, evenings and weekend work as required.
  16. Assists Activities Director in overseeing the safety conditions of the facilities or area in which assigned sport is conducted at all times that students are present.
  17. Maintains accurate records and statistical results of team injuries, treatments and medical data for the Athletic Department.  
  18. Provides insurance claim forms for sports injuries treated by a physician.  
  19. Tracks injury prevention activities for pre-season, in-season and provides post-season evaluation of program effectiveness.
  20. Recommends acquisition of safety equipment and supplies applicable to the respective athletic teams.
  21. Plan and schedule the purchase of all sports medical program supplies and equipment within allocated budget parameters.
  22. Renders first aid to injured players, such as cleaning and bandaging wounds, etc. 
  23. Calls for emergency services and/or physician for injured persons as required.
  24. Provides coaches and Activities Director with a  list of athletes medically eligible to compete under district and state rules and regulations.
  25. Act as liaison between family physician and specialist, the school district, athletes and their parents.
  26. Wraps ankles, fingers, etc. to provide support of injured muscles and ligaments.  Provides proper training, bracing and proper fitting of athletic supplies by the district.
  27. Other duties as assigned by the Activities Director.
