Highway Mechanic Intern

This is entry level mechanical work in the maintenance and repair of automotive,
maintenance, construction and related equipment used in highway maintenance, other county-owned motor vehicles and miscellaneous maintenance-type equipment.
 
Work involves a high learning competency for performing tasks of mechanical maintenance on various kinds of automotive, maintenance, construction and other standard and specialized equipment operated by the County Highway Department (i.e. law enforcement vehicles, motor graders, tractors, wheel loaders, backhoe/loaders, skid Loaders, light to medium duty trucks etc.). Job assignments range from minor adjustments to major repairs including trouble-shooting and routine service maintenance. Employees of this class are expected to exercise independent judgment as the method of repair on most assignments. Work is reviewed by the Highway Maintenance Lead Worker-Shop for acceptability while in progress and upon completion. Work is performed under limited supervision of the Fleet Manager and is periodically reviewed by the Highway Maintenance Supervisor and the County Highway Engineer.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

  • High school Diploma or Equivalent.
  • Currently enrolled in an Automotive or Heavy Equipment Mechanic Program
