Job Description
As a Business Analyst Intern working alongside an agile software development team, you will help translate business needs into actionable development tasks. You will work closely with the Product Owner and gain hands-on experience in a fast-paced, real-world software development environment, contributing to the creation of innovative web applications built using modern technologies for the public safety community of Gwinnett County. This internship offers exposure to all phases of the software development lifecycle and a valuable opportunity to build practical business analysis skills.
Essential Duties
- Assist with requirements gathering and documentation by participating in team meetings and stakeholder discussions.
- Help draft user stories, features, and acceptance criteria under the guidance of the Product Owner and Business Analyst.
- Learn how to manage and update the product backlog using tools like Jira.
- Support sprint planning, reviews, and backlog refinement meetings.
- Collaborate with developers and QA testers to clarify requirements and test outcomes.
- Participate in UI/UX discussions, offering feedback and learning from design team workflows.
- Research similar applications, industry best practices, and potential technology solutions.
- Assist in preparing reports, visualizations, and stakeholder communications.
Other Job Requirements/Information
- Work schedule for this position would be Monday - Friday, 8:00am-5:00pm.
- This internship will be for Summer 2025
- This job is a civilian position in either a public safety department or in Information Technology with close ties to public safety. Due to the sensitive nature of this position, a public safety background which may include motor vehicle & criminal histories, and fingerprinting.
- Candidates are required to obtain GCIC certification within 30 days of hire.
Minimum Qualifications
- Must be actively enrolled in an accredited college or university degree program for the full duration of the internship (proof of enrollment will be required)
- Pursuing a Master's or Bachelor's Degree in Business Administration, Management Information Systems, Analytics, or a related and technically comparable field OR relevant and technically comparable work experience.
- Familiarity with web technologies including HTML, CSS, JavaScript, React, Node.js, Python, and Microsoft SQL Server. Deep technical expertise is not required, but a degree of foundational understanding of some of these technologies is essential for effective collaboration with the development team.
- Strong analytical and problem-solving abilities with keen attention to detail.
- Strong verbal and written communication skills, capable of conveying complex information clearly to both technical and non-technical stakeholders.
- Ability to work both independently and collaboratively in a team environment while building effective relationships with other cross-functional teams and stakeholders.
- Strong ability to remain organized and focused while managing multiple tasks and priorities in a fast-paced setting.
Preferred Qualifications in addition to minimum qualifications
- Exposure to Agile methodologies through coursework, personal projects, or previous internships.
- Familiarity with tools such as Jira, Confluence, Figma, or similar platforms.
- Basic understanding of UI/UX principles.
- Curiosity about public safety systems and government technology solutions.
- Basic understanding of DevOps principles and processes.
- Strong communication skills and the ability to adapt to evolving user requirements.
- Strong problem-solving skills and the ability to communicate technical concepts effectively to technical and non-technical stakeholders alike.
- Ability to quickly learn new technologies and rapidly adapt to the ever-evolving technological landscape and shifting user requirements.
- A keen interest in the application of technological solutions to solve public safety challenges or problems.
