The Texas Alcoholic Beverage Commission is seeking interns to serve in the Law Enforcement Department for summer 2025 for up to 20 hours a week from June 2 through August 29, 2025.
LAW ENFORCEMENT DEPARTMENT
TABC’s Law Enforcement Department is charged with executing the agency’s law enforcement and investigations missions in support of public safety. The department employs most of the agency’s commissioned peace officers and works to investigate crimes and legal violations connected to licensed locations from operating after hours to human trafficking. A distinction between open operations and undercover operations separates the department and unit efforts within Enforcement.
Enforcement agents also provide training to permit holders and their employees by request and in response to violations by permit holders. Certified peace officers collaborate with and give presentations to other law enforcement agencies to promote a better understanding of the law and the roles and responsibilities of TABC.
GENERAL DESCRIPTION:
Performs highly-complex administrative support work and assisting Enforcement staff with general office duties. General office duties include but are not limited to, research, data entry, compiling and tabulating data, checking documents for accuracy, assist in managing the flow of paperwork, and maintaining files. Works under limited supervision, with moderate latitude for the use of initiative and independent judgment.
ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS (EJFs):
- Performs support work for division program areas.
- Provides project assistance.
- Evaluates and provides feedback on division’s functionality to improve efficiency, streamline programs, or cut costs.
- Conducts research as requested for various projects.
- Creates, designs or edits support materials, such as charts, graphs, or other visuals and prepares correspondence, reports, studies, forms, and documents.
- Assists with special projects and performs other duties as assigned.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
Graduation from a standard high school or equivalent.
AND
Currently enrolled in an accredited college or university.
Must be able to pass a background check.
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:
Experience in clerical work.
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES:
- Knowledge of office procedures; of spelling, punctuation, grammar, and arithmetic; of business or program terminology, methods, and procedures; and of records administration and maintenance techniques and procedures.
- Skill in the use of a computer, computer programs (e.g., Microsoft Suite and Adobe Acrobat) and office equipment (e.g., printer and scanner).
- Skill in critical thinking and problem solving with attention to detail and strong organizational skills.
- Ability to prepare and maintain records, files, and reports; to transfer stock from one location to another; to make arithmetic computations; and to communicate effectively.
REGISTRATION, CERTIFICATION OR LICENSURE:
Must be able to present a copy of college transcript.
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS AND/OR WORKING CONDITIONS:
This position functions in a standard office environment. Must be able to move about the office to access file cabinets, office equipment, etc. Must be able to communicate and exchange accurate information via telephone, computer and in person. Must be able to perform repetitive use of a keyboard at a workstation. Must be able to work with overlapping deadlines. Required to work as a team member, and work with sensitive and confidential information.
