Billing and Credentialing Specialist
We are seeking an energetic, dedicated person to fill a Billing and Credentialing Specialist position.
The Billing & Credentialing Specialist is responsible for managing the day-to-day activities relating to revenue cycle functions and coordinating all aspects of the credentialing and recredentialing process for payers and providers.
The primary responsibilities of this position are:
- Billing, collections, accounts receivables and financial planning for patients
- Develop and implement strategies to bill medical claims, process payments, minimize bad debt, improve cash flow, and manage the overall health of receivables
- Verify lab charges are captured
- Review and resolve ‘Missing Slips’ Athena bucket
- Review and submit denials and appeals from payers
- Verify and resolve patient insurance eligibility issues
- Speak with patients and answer questions relating to their billing or insurance (ex. GAAP)
- Review chart documentation for correct coding and missed revenue opportunities
- Review patient accounts receivable for large balances
- Oversee patient account collection processes
- Communicate and educate providers and staff regarding coding and documentation guidelines
- Credential new providers and re-credential current providers with facilities at which they hold privileges
- Complete credentialing applications to add providers to payers
- Demonstrate and promote positive internal and external customer service standards

Qualifications and Skills
- Familiarity with Athena billing practices
- CPB Certification preferred
- Exceptional customer service and critical thinking skills
- Five years of experience working in a health care environment preferred
- Ability to work collaboratively with multiple health professionals in a busy and complex environment using tact and diplomacy
- Ability to defuse tense situations through diplomatic problem-solving
- Ability to operate computer and other office equipment
