Description of Job:
This position will perform routine support services and clinical tasks for the incarcerated offenders in either an outpatient clinic, infirmary, telehealth, or specialized cell house setting for acute care, chronic support and emergency interventions as indicated. This position may be required to work any shift, weekends, and holidays.
The duties include but are not limited to:
- Provide assistance to the telehealth provider by scheduling regional medical appointments and providing medical assistance to include such activities as taking medical histories, vital signs, height and weight, and documenting appropriately; other treatments include, but are not limited to, dressing changes, suture removal, medicated nebulizer treatments, eye/ear irrigations;
- Assist physicians, physician assistants, and nurse practitioners with minor medical and surgical procedures;
- May administer medications if consistent with training program and completes DOC training program to administer medications;
- May occasionally be required to participate in restraining an inmate primarily for medical reasons;
- Perform all types of clinical support services necessary for the operations of a clinical unit which might include answering phones, and maintaining office equipment and supplies including forms for the clinical unit, and ordering and maintaining medical supplies for store rooms and examination rooms;
- Coordinate grievances by logging and mailing back responses. Complete flow sheets of all types both paper and electronic;
- Order and restock patient education materials in appropriate areas of the clinic. Order medications and restock medication rooms including pulling outdated medications;
- Observe and report to a medical provider, dentist, or mental health professional the observed physical and emotional condition of inmates including the effectiveness of medications and treatments during sick line sick-call and emergencies using skills and appropriate protocols;
- Demonstrate adequate interpersonal skills to communicate successfully in person, on the telephone, and during telehealth appointments with all necessary contacts within DOC and outside agencies;
- Promote and is accountable for safety and security of the clinical environment through conscientious observations and sensitive item/contraband control including but not limited to counting syringes, needles, narcotics, instruments, and key control.
- May be required to travel to other facilities as needed.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
High School Diploma or GED
AND
Graduate from an accredited Medical Assistant program with Certification or Registration or Medication Aide Certificate or License **(a copy of your current and valid certificate/license must be attached at the time of application)**
Special Requirement:
Receive Qualified Medication Administration Personnel (QMAP) certification within 180 days of hire.

- Ability to effectively treat inmate patients on a daily basis in a variety of settings;
- Ability to follow patient confidentiality standards;
- Ability to respond to emergency situations involving inmates and/or medical situations;
- Excellent interpersonal and communication skills;
- Ability to read and comprehend the English language;
- Ability to effectively communicate fluently in English both verbally and in writing;
- Ability to create accessible documents and technical content that follows plain language guidelines with accessibility in mind.
- Excellent discernment and decision making skills;
- Ability to follow instructions and pay attention to details;
- Ability to work a variety of shifts on a full time basis;
