Graduate Assistant - Placement Testing Center
Graduate Assistants in Advising & Student Transitions will coordinate distinct projects and research in collaboration with professional staff on issues affecting the work and mission of Advising and Student Transitions, including but not limited to the coordination of work with our student success platform reporting and outreach (Navigate), assessment efforts, placement testing, and retention outreach efforts. Students in these positions will assist in the planning and implementation of placement testing and student assessment as well as other advising and student transition activities.
This position will work specifically with our Placement Testing services, with the following responsibilities:
• Answer staff & student questions about Placement Testing via email, telephone, and during large events such as Advising and Registration Days, Discover Red and Black, New Student Admit Days, etc.
• Educate students on the importance of placement testing and explain how scores impact course selection
• Coordinate and proctor Placement Testing sessions
• Train and teach Placement Testing procedures and policies to fellow staff members
• Produce reports, assist departments in piloting new placement testing initiatives
• Consult other departments/offices on campus for Placement Testing needs (Advising Center, Center for International Studies, Admissions, Math Department, etc.)
• Conduct testing, attend meetings that pertain to Placement Testing, implement new testing initiatives, and update manuals, websites, marketing material, literature, etc.
• Maintain sensitive and confidential student information
• Complete multiple tasks in a fast-paced, team environment
• Utilize effective communication, interpersonal and organizational skills.
• Participate in the A&ST Graduate Assistant training and meetings
• Other duties as assigned.
Learning Outcomes
• Learn how to implement large scaled initiatives- communication plans, marketing campaigns, pilot programs, etc.
• Develop and increase confidence in the ability to communicate with internal and external constituents about policies and procedures in regards to Placement Testing.
• Develop a high level of professional autonomy and self-sufficiency.
Qualifications
• Must be currently enrolled in a Graduate program at St. Cloud State University
• Excellent verbal and written communication skills
• Pleasant and polite demeanor, positive attitude, ability to handle occasional pressured situations
• Basic computer skills and experience with office equipment (phone, fax, copier, scanner, and printer)
• Strong organizational skills emphasizing an ability to maintain neat and orderly files
• Consistent ability to approach and document inappropriate student conduct during exams
• Adherence to all FERPA regulations regarding confidentiality and privacy of student records
• Ability to take initiative, work independently and problem-solve.
