Position Overview

The Illinois Department of Public Health is seeking a highly motivated individual to serve as the TB Program Epidemiologist. Under direction, assists the TB Program Manager to plan and direct statewide program for the control of tuberculosis including the development of research, epidemiology analysis of TB data, and TB reports; collaborates with the TB Program Manager in the development of planning documents involving the TB Control Program.

Essential Functions

• Assists the TB Program Manager to plan and direct statewide program for the control of tuberculosis.
• Designs and develops statistical methodology for epidemiological research of tuberculosis. Conducts analysis of data and provides Interpretation of and consultation regarding research results.
• Works with the surveillance specialist in managing the various TB databases and applications to ensure accurate and timely reporting.
• Provides, either directly or through the use of TB staff, epidemiologic consultation (through the application of TB structured policies and guidelines) to TB control partners and stakeholders.
• Contributes to grant development especially in the monitoring and evaluation plan.
• Conduct gap analysis in communities or population of asylees, refugees and parolees.
• Outlines the processes involved in the development of an LTBI surveillance program. Establish the reporting of LTBI in the state electronic reporting tool.
• Performs other duties as requires or assigned which are reasonably within the scope of the duties enumerated above.

Minimum Qualifications

• Requires possession of a Bachelor's degree in epidemiology, demography, bio-statistics, or related social science research field from an accredited university.
• Requires four (4) years of professional experience in applied epidemiology, biostatistics, or in population, or related research field.
• Preferred Qualifications
• Two (2) years’ experience in TB epidemiology including factors affecting TB transmission dynamics, incidence and prevalence measures and data sources.
• Two (2) years’ experience with advanced statistical methods including positive predictive value, multivariate logistical regression analysis, relative risk, p-value, and t-test.
• Three (3) years’ experience and proficiency in using GIS (Geographic Information System)analysis, statistical packages (e.g., SPSS or SAS), and relational databases (e.g., Microsoft Access).
• Three (3) years’ experience in developing complex epidemiologic profiles and statistical reports containing analysis text, tables, and charts.
• MPH or higher degree in epidemiology.
