Historic Eidem Farm Gardener (Seasonal)
Do you love working outdoors, tending to plants, and caring for animals? Historic Eidem Farm is seeking a dedicated gardener to help maintain our grounds and gardens and provide evening care for our farm animals as needed. This position offers a unique opportunity to work in a historic setting, supporting the farm’s vegetable and native gardens. We welcome all ages (16+) and interests to apply.

Gardener schedules are Monday-Wednesday and Friday evenings, 6-8pm, with additional opportunities for special events throughout the summer.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
- Assist with planting, cultivating, and maintaining the farm’s gardens, including native and vegetable gardens.
- Harvest produce and participate in seed-saving efforts to support sustainable farming practices.
- Ensure the gardens remain a welcoming and educational space for visitors.
- Provide evening animal care as needed, including feeding and monitoring the well-being of the farm’s goats and chickens.
- Perform manual tasks on the site grounds.
- Effectively communicate information about garden and grounds maintenance practices, and seasonal activities to Historic Eidem Farm Recreation Specialist
- Maintain close and effective working relationships with city staff, volunteers, and community groups.
- Follow site safety procedures.
- Perform additional duties as assigned.

Education
None.
Experience
- 16 years of age or older
- Experience with gardening, farming, or animal care is preferred but not required.
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
- Passion for gardening and animal care.
- Ability to communicate effectively both orally and in writing with all ages
- Ability to work outdoors in all weather conditions and perform physical tasks such as planting, weeding, and lifting.
- Ability to respond appropriately to any emergency or incident that may arise and follow site safety procedures.
- Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with others.
- Ability to work independently.
- Proven ability and demonstrated commitment to an inclusive workplace related to racial equity, diversity and inclusion.
- Ability to provide a level of customer service that meets/exceeds customer expectations.
- Embrace and engage in cultural shift toward continuous improvement.
Desired Qualifications
- College course work or degree in gardening, farming or animal care
- Experience working with the public and providing customer service.
- Demonstrated ability to professionally exhibit cultural sensitivity, patience and understanding in the course of work duties.
- Interest in and experience with taking care of farm animals such as goats, sheep, and chickens.
- Interest in and willingness to learn about market farming.
- Willingness to perform heavy manual tasks related to gardening, agriculture, and horticulture in outdoor programming areas in all types of weather.
- Understanding and knowledge of Minnesota native prairie, flower, and vegetable gardening,
- Proven ability and demonstrated commitment to an inclusive workplace related to racial equity, diversity and inclusion.
- Fluency in Spanish, Hmong, Russian, Somali Lao, or Vietnamese language(s).
Hiring Timeline and Selection Process:

Anticipated Hiring Wage: $14.33 - $18.57 per hour, depending on qualifications
