Chemical Engineering Intern

The GA Telesis Landing Gear Services facility in Medley, FL is seeking a motivated Chemical Engineering Intern to support the engineering team in the development, testing, and optimization of materials and coatings for landing gear systems. This internship provides hands-on experience in surface treatments, corrosion prevention, and material performance analysis in an aerospace environment. This is a paid internship at $16/hr. Applicants must be US Citizens due to Federal contracting.

Responsibilities:

  • Assist in research and development of protective coatings, corrosion prevention, and surface treatments for landing gear components.
  • Support materials testing, including chemical composition analysis, adhesion testing, and wear resistance evaluation.
  • Help analyze and improve chemical processes used in landing gear manufacturing, such as anodizing, plating, and heat treatment.
  • Work with cross-functional teams, including mechanical engineers and material scientists, to optimize material selection for durability and weight reduction.
  • Contribute to environmental and safety compliance efforts, ensuring that chemical processes meet aviation industry regulations (e.g., REACH, RoHS, FAA, EASA).
  • Assist in documentation, reporting, and presentation of findings related to material performance and chemical processing.

Qualifications: 

  • Current student pursuing a bachelor’s or master’s degree in chemical engineering or a related field.
  • Strong understanding of materials science, corrosion, coatings, and chemical processes.
  • Basic knowledge of aviation materials and regulations is a plus.
  • Experience with laboratory testing techniques (e.g., spectroscopy, microscopy, electrochemical testing) is desirable.
  • Proficiency in data analysis tools such as MATLAB, Python, or Excel.
  • Ability to work collaboratively in a team environment and communicate technical concepts effectively.
  • Detail-oriented, analytical mindset with problem-solving skills
