TITLE: SPEECH/LANGUAGE PATHOLOGIST

QUALIFICATIONS:

Must hold proper certification issued through Professional Teaching Standards Board or licensure through professional organization (American Speech-Language Hearing Association ).

TERMS OF EMPLOYMENT:

The Speech/Language Pathologist shall, under normal circumstances, be employed by the Board no later than April 15. Contract terms shall be as per adopted certified salary schedule and as per adopted benefit package.

REPORTS TO:  School Principals and Special Education Director

JOB GOAL: Evaluate and develop an educational plan to mee the specific needs of students who qualify for Speech or Language eligibility as defined by state and federal rules and regulations. 

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS:

  1. Evaluate and diagnose specific articulation or language deficits of referred students within the schools.
  2. Design and develop an Individual Education Plan (IEP) for each student that meets the qualifications for direct services for articulation or language disability.
  3. Complete the necessary paperwork for Evaluations and IEPs.
  4. Collaborate with teaching staff in development of a variety of strategies to meet the educational needs of students within the building.
  5. Encourage parental involvement in student’s education and ensure effective communication with students and parents.
  6. Assist with the screening activities of students at each building.

OTHER JOB FUNCTIONS:

Perform such other appropriate duties as may be assigned by the principal and/or special education director.

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS/ENVIRONMENTAL CONDITIONS:

  1. Requires driving skills and the ability to drive at night
  2. Requires prolonged sitting or standing
  3. Requires some overnight travel
  4. Work in standard office and school building environments
