Marine Mammal Rescue Intern (2 positions available)
Seacoast Science Center’s (SSC) Marine Mammal Rescue (MMR) program is hiring two interns for Summer 2025. The MMR interns will be trained in marine mammal response, community outreach, and conducting programs to advance the mission of the program. Primary responsibilities will include:
- Assist with marine mammal response, triage, and transport, as well as reporting hotline operations
- Assist at educational outreach events (both onsite and offsite)
- Conduct public programs/experiences, including Wildlife Kayak Tours and Isles of Shoals Excursions
- Develop educational and engaging educational content on local marine mammal species, including social media and blog posts.
- Assist with organization and execution of trainings with local stakeholders (lifeguards, animal control, volunteers, etc)
A successful MMR intern is outgoing and passionate about marine conservation and education. Knowledge of ocean ecology and marine mammal biology is helpful, along with public speaking experience. This is a position that will be funded through a federal grant and is contingent upon availability of those funds.
Requirements
The MMR Interns must have a valid driver’s license and reliable transportation to and from SSC, as well as housing secured within 30 minutes of SSC. Applicants should be able to lift 50 pounds, be comfortable standing for extended periods of time, and be comfortable with mild-moderate physical exertion. Kayaking experience and comfortability on boats is preferred. Formal teaching experience is not necessary.
