The 10-week Zayo Summer Internship Program is designed to cultivate the next generation of telecommunications professionals. Interns will gain meaningful, hands-on experience within a dynamic, fast-paced, and innovative environment. Zayo is seeking a Fiber Engineering Support Intern, where you’ll gain hands-on experience in the world of fiber optics and telecom infrastructure. As part of the engineering team, the Fiber Engineering Support Intern will help maintain and enhance our fiber network’s design and data, contributing to mission-critical projects that power our global services. This internship offers the opportunity to work with industry-leading tools, collaborate with professionals, and develop a deep understanding of fiber engineering while supporting day-to-day operations.

Responsibilities:
Process Engineering Documents: Review and process past engineering documents to ensure accuracy and alignment with the latest information. You’ll use our GIS software to keep fiber network records up to date, supporting the integrity of our network data.
Database Maintenance: Work with the team to remove and update canceled orders (disconnects) from the database, ensuring our records reflect real-time network status.
Assist with Documentation: Support the preparation of various engineering documentation and reports, helping to streamline processes and improve operational efficiency.
Troubleshoot and Clarify Orders: Investigate and resolve issues related to unclear or incomplete orders, collaborating with engineers to ensure smooth project progression.
Learn Fiber Engineering: Get exposure to fiber design processes and the tools used in telecom engineering, including network topology and GIS mapping software.
Collaborative Learning: Work closely with the engineering and OSP teams, gaining valuable insights into how fiber networks are designed, implemented, and maintained.
Qualifications:
Applicants must have completed their sophomore year and be enrolled in a degree or certificate seeking program for the fall semester of 2025.
A current student pursuing a degree GIS, Civil Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Telecommunications or related field.
Strong attention to detail with an interest in learning about fiber optic networks and telecom infrastructure.
Comfortable working with data and documentation, and eager to tackle challenges with problem-solving skills.
Familiarity with Microsoft Office Suite (Excel, Word, etc.); experience with GIS software is a plus but not required.
A self-starter with the ability to work both independently and as part of a team.
Estimated Base Pay Range: $23.00 - $25.00 USD/hour.
