At the UNL Panhandle Research, Extension & Education Center in Scottsbluff, NE; we innovate and conduct research to make life better for Nebraska ag producers and rural communities.

As a Temporary Farm Hand, you will:

  • Perform all activities associated with irrigated corn, sugar beets, and dry edible beans production including but not limited to disking, field cultivation, chisel plowing, deep tillage, auger cart operation, fertilizer applications, spraying, grain cart operation, manure application, and harvesting.
  • Perform routine equipment maintenance and repair of farm equipment.
  • Assist with transportation of crop grains during harvest to storage locations throughout the PHREEC facilities, while maintaining accurate records on condition and location of grains.
  • Provides supervisor recommendations, promotes safe work environment, attends continuing education classes. Other duties as assigned.

Irregular hours and work in inclement weather required. Position requires obtaining an EPA Non-Commercial Pesticide Applicator’s License within 90 days of employment.
Full- and part-time positions available. Within the UNL system, these positions are categorized as Temporary Office/Service Hourly positions.

Temporary employees may be appointed for a period of up to two years. Temporary employees appointed for six months or less are not eligible for benefits. Those appointed for more than six months are eligible for benefits from the beginning of the appointment, provided the position is half-time (.50 FTE) or greater. Benefits for eligible temporary employees include the following: health, dental, vision, and life insurance.
 

Minimum Required Qualifications

  • High school diploma or equivalent plus one year of experience in agriculture.
  • Additional relevant education may substitute for experience on a year-for-year basis.
  • Ability to operate, maintain, and perform basic repair of agricultural field equipment.
  • Must have a valid driver’s license and meet UNL driver eligibility requirements.

Posted Salary  $18.00/hr minimum
