Senior Clinician 

Mental Health Support Services

Hiring Range: $71,395 - $96,382

Who We Are:
Mental Health Support Services (MHSS) is the provider of mental health, developmental disabilities, and substance use disorder services for children and adults in Chesterfield County. The Adult Substance Use Services team is seeking a qualified and experienced therapist to join our American Society of Addiction Medicine (ASAM) Level 1 Outpatient program. Our team is full of passionate and compassionate treatment professionals who care deeply about providing a non-judgmental space for individuals and families impacted by substance use.

Minimum Education and Experience:
Successful candidate will possess a master's degree in Human Services; three years of experience; or an equivalent combination of training and experience. Experience facilitating psychotherapy groups with a curriculum designed for addressing substance use and co-occurring disorders preferred; direct experience in the assessment and treatment of substance use disorders, trauma, and co-occurring mental health disorders is preferred; verbal and written fluency in both Spanish and English is preferred. Experience with an electronic health record (EHR) preferred.

Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
Considerable knowledge and understanding of fundamental concepts of normal and abnormal human behavior, personality development, family and group dynamics; considerable knowledge of and an ability to apply a variety of psychotherapeutic treatment techniques/modalities; adherence to basic ethics appropriate for a professional helping relationship; knowledge of mental health diagnoses, assessment, and/or psychological and educational testing; some knowledge of consultation program; considerable knowledge of psychosocial history development; very good interviewing and interpersonal skills; ability to communicate clearly, both orally and in writing. Considerable knowledge in the assessment and treatment of substance use disorders, trauma, and co-occurring mental health disorders is preferred.

Additional Requirements
 • Must hold an active professional license in the State of Virginia (LCSW, LPC, LMFT, or LSAPT) or be fully licensed within 6 months of hire.
 • Pre-employment drug testing, FBI criminal background check and education/degree verification required.

 

Duties include but are not limited to the following: 

• Completes comprehensive needs assessments including the use of ASAM Criteria to determine diagnosis and treatment recommendations for individual impacted by substance use, trauma and co-occurring mental health conditions; 

• Utilizes evidence-based practices to facilitate individual therapy and group therapy services to a primary substance use and co-occurring population; 

• Develops and monitors clinical treatment plans to address identified needs and goals for services; 

• May visit clients at home to conduct assessment, provide treatment and, if appropriate, motivate them to come into agency for service; 

• Provides case management and care coordination including routine collaboration with other treatment professionals and referring providers including PCPs, Community Corrections, Probation and Parole, and Department of Social Services; 

• Ensures accurate and timely documentation is inputted in an Electronic Health Record in accordance with licensure, Department of Medical Assistance Services, and the Commission on Accreditation of Rehabilitation Facilities (CARF) CARF standards for practice; and 

• Performs other work as required.
