Summary Statement

The Deputy Principal Assistant to the Secretary of Finance is a professional-level position that reports to the Secretary of Finance and the Deputy Secretary. Key responsibilities include managing day-to-day operational challenges, handling constituent relations, and overseeing policy and legislative review and development. The role also involves supervising project teams and providing high-level administrative support, often dealing with complex issues. Policy Development:

Participating in the creation and implementation of new policies and procedures within the agency, analyzing data to inform decision-making. 

Constituent Relations:

Addressing inquiries from the public, legislators, and other agencies, resolving complex issues, and ensuring timely responses. 

Legislative Liaison:

Monitoring legislation relevant to the agency, providing information and analysis to leadership, and advocating for policy positions. 

Reporting and Analysis:

Preparing detailed reports, compiling data, and analyzing trends to inform decision making. 

Communication Management:

Drafting correspondence, press releases, and public statements, coordinating communication with stakeholders. 

Compliance Oversight:

Ensuring adherence to state and federal regulations, including reviewing and producing compliance reports and addressing potential issues. 

Project Management:

Leading cross-functional teams on special projects, managing timelines, and coordinating resources.

The role requires a thorough knowledge of relevant state statutes and administrative codes to properly interpret and apply them. 

Strong communication skills:

Effective verbal and written communication are essential for interacting with diverse stakeholders, explaining complex issues clearly, and crafting concise reports.

Awareness of the political landscape and ability to navigate sensitive issues while maintaining neutrality. 

Leadership abilities:

The ability to manage and motivate staff, delegate tasks, independently follow-up, and foster a collaborative work environment.
