Position Overview:

The Tribologist will be part of the engineering team that studies friction, wear, and lubrication as it relates to the science of interacting surfaces in relative motion on our various surface coatings and surface treatment solutions.  This position will help organize, run, and analyze test results for our R&D and production teams. 

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

  1. Perform precision testing and measurements using advanced scientific equipment (ex. scanning electron microscope also called an SEM), digital microscope, an optical profilometer, and a tribological testing rig.
  2. Perform analysis of test results and create reports to summarize key findings, presenting to engineering and leadership as needed. 
  3. Fixture parts and/or standard research specimens, working with hand tools as required.
  4. Follow work instructions, review safety data sheets, and follow standard handling protocols.
  5. Select and run appropriate equipment program(s)/recipe(s). 
  6. Interface with quality systems, including maintaining records of work performed and corresponding results. 
  7. Provide technical training and support for internal teams and clients. 
  8. Stay updated on the latest tribology advancements and industry trends. 
  9. Read and understand blueprints and part drawings.
  10. Assist in maintaining facility cleanliness and organization through regular inspection and cleaning of your department. 
  11. Cross-train in other areas/departments as needed.
  12. Complete additional assignments and projects as prescribed by your supervisor.
  13. Follow all AS9100, internal quality policies, OSHA safety regulations, and company safety policies.

 

Job Requirements:

  1. Must be a U.S. Citizen/Green Card holder. Sponsorship is not provided for this position.
  2. Bachelor’s degree in Materials Science Engineers, Materials Science, Metallurgy, Mechanical Engineers, or Physics required.
  3. Must have between 1-3 years’ experience working in a lab setting. 
  4. Must have excellent attention to detail, ability to follow directions, and ability to communicate efficiently and accurately.
  5. Must have excellent organizational skills. 
  6. Competency in using basic hand tools.
  7. Must be able to pick up and carry 50 lbs. daily.
  8. Must be able to walk and stand up to 50-75% of the workday.
  9. Must be proficient in Microsoft Office software. 
  10. Experience working with novel or advanced scientific equipment is a plus.
  11. Blueprint reading experience is a plus. 
  12. Previous experience with chemical handling is a plus.
  13. Previous experience with quality inspection processes is a plus.
  14. All employment at IBC is conditional upon results from a background check and drug test.
