Videographer/Editor
Welcome to our little (creative) house on the prairie, where we develop and manage marketing campaigns for ambitious brands. We’re not a large team, but our work’s impact is growing across the United States and beyond. And video is a big driver of our success. Now, we’re looking for a talented videographer/video editor to join our team.
What You Will Do
- Shoot Captivating Footage: Use your knowledge of cinematography techniques to grab attention for our customers’ brands. Be able to shoot various styles, from interviews to action. You will be working in the elements (that’s outdoors) and may need to adjust plans to account for weather, etc. We prefer videos that drive interest through a unique perspective of the world.
- Produce Impactful Videos: Use video editing software, including Adobe Creative Suite, to create a wide variety of videos, from long-form documentary style to short social stingers.
- Herd Cats: Coordinate video shoots with clients and other stakeholders/participants. Re-coordinate when weather or scheduling conflicts tank your plans. (Hopefully you don’t get to re-re-re-coordinate often, but it does happen.)
- Help with graphic design: You may also help with simple graphic design projects on occasion. (Even our copywriter can handle these projects, so don’t be scared.)
- Maintain assigned equipment, including cameras, tripods, drones, and other company property.
- Work in-office (in Sleepy Eye, Minnesota) or remotely. You will have to come to the office at some point, but this can be minimal for the right candidate. Be willing and able to travel to shoot locations. Most locations are in the Midwest, but may be across the country.
- Be able to work outside of standard business hours to capture those gorgeous sunrise and sunset colors.
What You Will Bring
Because we’re a small team, the “little things” are just as important as the usual twice-washed laundry list of qualifications for a videography gig. Look at it this way: You’ll be one-fourth of our full-time team, so you will have the opportunity to have an outsized influence not only on our video work, but in the direction and success of the company itself.
- Ownership Mentality: Take charge of your video projects. Enlist help from teammates when necessary. Be proactive and ask for help when something goes off track.
- Creative Advocacy: Be able to defend your creative vision, rationally, and bring others on board with it. Challenge other team members to contribute superior work to support video projects.
- Practicality: You love film as an art, but realize that, at the end of the day, our work has to drive results for clients. Our video projects are the means to an end. So, you can have fun, but there are limits, such as budgets and brand/style requirements.
- Organization: You think very carefully about your shot list. You remember the appropriate equipment for a shoot. You’re on time. And you don’t depend on someone else to keep you on track.
- Communication Skills: You’re a good listener. You’re courteous to clients, coworkers, and, well, basically anyone you meet. You also know when not to talk (i.e. you keep business and client information confidential).
- Education: Some type of degree or certificate in filmmaking, broadcasting, mass communications, or anything (if you can explain to us how it’s relevant and will help you succeed).
- Experience: 1–2 years of video production experience is preferred. But we’re open to other possibilities. (Convince us that you’re the right fit.) You do need experience operating professional video cameras, including drones; positioning lighting equipment; and using professional audio recording devices.
- Remote Pilot Certificate (Part 107): You should have this exciting certificate in your possession or be willing to obtain it upon hire in a reasonable amount of time.
- Animation Design Experience: Bonus points if you have this in your back pocket.
- Drivers License: You must possess and maintain a valid driver’s license.
