The Challenge
We are looking for an experienced Transportation Worker IV to join our Forsyth County Maintenance team.
In this role you will:
- Perform a wide range of maintenance tasks in preventive maintenance, repair, and construction of state-maintained roads and roadside features.
- Set up work zones.
- Install traffic control devices.
- Repair asphalt pavements.
- Clear right of ways of debris and hazards.
- Assist with pipe installation.
- Operate hand and power tools.
- Operate construction equipment, including an asphalt maintainer, asphalt patch truck, tandem dump truck, crack sealing machine, rollers, sweepers, skid steer, and backhoe.
- Transport and monitor work done by inmates.
- Monitor work done by other transportation workers.
- Respond to emergencies, such as snow and ice removal, downed trees, and traffic control cleanup, during normal business hours, during emergency callbacks, and for scheduled night work.
What You Bring
- Knowledge of Intermediate Work Zone Safety & NCDOT Workplace Safety policy and practices.
- Experience in 2+ pieces of the following equipment: backhoe, tandem dump truck, motor grader, front end loader, forklift, force feed loader, asphalt distributor, asphalt patcher, crack sealing machine, track excavators, skid steer, or sweeper.
- Demonstrated ability to supervise and train others in equipment operations and to direct work crew daily activities.
- Experience with 1+ of the following: shoulder and ditch maintenance, pipe installation, or asphalt patching.
- Experience in snow and ice removal operations.
- Communications skills to effectively communicate in English.
- Ability to work well when exposed to extreme conditions, such as ice, snow, difficult terrain, dust, extreme heat, cold, high volumes of traffic, and heavy construction equipment.
- Safety toe shoes.
- Agility to climb, bend, and traverse steep and uneven terrain and work in extreme temperature conditions.
- Ability to get a Class A Commercial Driver's License with Tanker (N) endorsement. (Don't have it? Still Apply! You can earn it through our on-the-job training within 360 days of hire).
- Ability to obtain and maintain a valid inmate card.
Notes
- We will conduct a pre-employment drug testing and background check of your employers for the past 3 years for controlled substances/alcohol testing.
Education & Experience
- High school/GED diploma, and
- 6+ years of relevant experience; or
- An equivalent combination of education and experience.
