GRADUATE WRITING SUPPORT - GRADUATE ASSISTANT (GA)
POSITION DESCRIPTION FOR:
F2025-Sp2026
Start/End Date: June 1, 2025 – May 8, 2026
Hours: 20/week on campus
Salary: $10,560/academic year, plus tuition remission (up to 9 credits/semester). Additional compensation for Summer. Schedule to be determined.

- Admitted to a graduate degree program.
- Effective oral and written communication skills.
- Ability to work evenings, weekends.
- Ability to work over summer and breaks.

- Demonstrated competence in technical and interpersonal skills.
- Previous experience in tutoring and academic writing support or teaching experience
- Detail oriented with a strong customer service orientation.
- Effective time management.
- Ability to think critically, resolve problems, and take initiative.
Graduate Writing Resource Focus
- Develop and present workshops to graduate writers, classes, and instructors
- Work one-on-one and in small groups with student writers both in person and online
- Create handouts and instructional tools, PowerPoint presentations, and multi-media material.
- Maintain the Graduate Writing D2L site.
- Read and apply research in the teaching and tutoring of writing
- Provide support for academic outreach of the School of Graduate Studies.
- Collaborates and participates in the development and delivery of academic programming, as well as research and grant development workshops.
- Support production and delivery of bi-monthly departmental newsletters (SGS and RSP), including content development and delivery through Constant Contact.
- Serve as a back-up for the Format Review and ETD Support GA
- Contribute to SGS Facebook, Instagram, LinkedIn and YouTube accounts, ensuring interactivity and freshness of content.
- Actively use Huskies Connect to publicize academic workshops.
- Engage in assisting other SGS staff and GA’s as necessary and directed by supervisor.
- Support retention and completion initiatives of the School of Graduate Studies.
- Support student success programming and outreach initiatives.
- Participate in recruitment activities as needed.
GA Learning Outcomes
- Apply and improve their own expertise in the disciplines of rhetoric and writing
- Apply practical and theoretical frameworks in support of ELL, ESL, older, learning challenged, and other underrepresented groups
- Develop advising and tutoring skills.
- Use effective written and oral communication to develop and present writing support materials.
