Media Relations Intern

Job Description Summary:

Responsible for supporting the activities and projects of the department. Assist management and other staff members in a specific department with a variety of tasks including projects, special events and daily activities.

 

Responsibilities And Duties:

1. Project Coordination: Assists management and other staff in completion of various projects and long term assignments.2. Information Gathering: Provides assistance to staff by gathering pertinent information to complete a project or task assigned. Information is gathered from internal and external sources such as the Internet. Responsible for compiling information gathered into a presentation format.3. Provides other assistance and completes assignments specific to department as directed by management.

 

Minimum Qualifications:

High School or GED (Required)

 

Additional Job Description:

JOB SPECIFICS

+Paid ($16/hour) for a one-year commitment, with a 90-day review to ensure the internship is a good fit. Summer-only internships are not offered.

+Hours per week depend on the position and job site, but typically are 20 hours/week during the school year and up to 40 hours/week during the summer.

+Some travel may be required, so reliable access to a vehicle is mandatory.

+Dress when on-site is business casual.

+Some after-hours event support may be needed.

 

QUALIFICATIONS

+ Junior or senior-level college student (graduating in 2026 or 2027) pursuing a degree in journalism or communications. Graduate level or postgraduate level applicants will not be considered.

+ Strong organizational skills, as well as excellent written and oral communication skills.

+ Ability to multitask and work independently as well as part of a team.

+ Professional and flexible self-starter and self-motivator, as this will be a hybrid position working both from home and in the office.

+ Previous internship experience is preferred, but not required.

+ Familiarity with AP style.

+ Familiarity with videography and editing a plus.

RESPONSIBILITIES

+Assist in developing press releases and other materials for distribution to local, regional and national media.

+Assist with the coordination of media visits to the hospital.

+Write and update content for the OhioHealth Newsroom website.

+Compile media stories in OhioHealth Media Tracker.

+Assist in creation of bi-monthly media reports for system leadership.

+Assist with development of Medical Minute videos.  Interns may be trained to shoot and edit video.

+Assist with public relations planning and execution of tactics. 

+Coordinate posting of stories with OhioHealth social media team.

+Participate in department intern projects with other MarComm interns throughout the year.

+Assist as needed with news conferences or media events.

+Attend weekly media relations team meetings and various meetings with media relations team members – either in person or remotely.
