JOB DESCRIPTION

 

POSITION:  Comptroller

DEPARTMENT:  Business Office

SUPERVISOR:  Director of Finance

 

GENERAL JOB DESCRIPTION: The Comptroller will assist the Director of Finance in the management of all financial matters. 

 

QUALIFICATIONS:             

  1. Bachelor’s degree in accounting or business. 
  2. Working knowledge of governmental accounting.
  3. Ability to obtain a New Mexico Business Official License. 
  4. Ability to obtain New Mexico Certified Procurement Officer Certification.
  5. Knowledge of accounting and auditing principles.
  6. Strong computer skills. Specifically, knowledge of Microsoft Office Excel to develop spreadsheets.
  7. Ability to analyze and interpret data for accuracy.  Detail oriented.
  8. A genuine willingness to accept other jobs/responsibilities as deemed necessary.

 

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITES:

  1. Demonstrate and engage in ethical behavior.
  2. Maintain confidentiality.
  3. Work cooperatively with colleagues, supervisors, and administrators.
  4. Follow district policies and administrative rules and regulations.
  5. Use of effective people skills to coordinate with other departments and outside entities.
  6. Ability to meet deadlines.
  7. Ability to decipher complex problems and make decisions (within area of authority) with minimal supervision.
  8. Identify areas for improved efficiency of operations.
  9. Ability to research a variety of issues related to school business.
  10. Ensures the correct quote, bid, or RFP process is utilized for purchasing.
  11. Submits and maintains insurance claims for vehicles and buildings.
  12. Maintains fixed assets for the District.
  13. Monitors capital projects.
  14. Responsible for keeping District informed on Procurement Code/Purchasing Procedures and Changes.
  15. Sets up new Vendors and W-9s in Purchasing.
  16. Produces purchase orders for the District and submits revisions.
  17. Ability to take on new tasks as a result of changes in policy, legislation, or other mandates.
  18. Assist with financial aspects of grant management.
  19. Assist with annual budget preparation. 
  20. Assist with annual audit.
  21. Serve as backup to accounts payable, cash receipts, payroll, and benefits when necessary.
  22. Complete other tasks as deemed necessary by the Director of Finance.
