Job Summary 

We are seeking a highly motivated and technically adept Wind Tunnel Calibration & Testing Engineer Intern to join our team. The Wind Tunnel Calibration & Testing Engineer Intern is primary responsible for assisting in the setup and running of calibrations and experiments in the wind tunnel, analyzing experimental data, and supporting the instrumentation and troubleshooting of hardware systems. 

Responsibilities:

Experiment Setup and Execution:

  • Assist in the setting up and conducting wind tunnel experiments, ensuring accurate calibration and optimal operation of equipment.

Calibration and Testing: 

  • Run regular calibration procedures and assist in the validation of wind tunnel instrumentation and measurement devices. 

Data Analysis and Reporting: 

  • Analyze collected data from experiments and produce clear, concise reports detailing the findings, observations, and any recommendations for improvements. 

Instrumentation Support:

  • Help with the installation, maintenance and troubleshooting of wind tunnel instrumentation such as temperature probes, pressure transducers, and other electronics. 

Coding and Data Visualization: 

  • Write scripts (using languages such as Python, MATLAB, or similar) for data processing, automation of tasks, and visualization of experimental results. 

Hardware Troubleshooting

  • Diagnose and resolve issues with hardware systems, sensors, and other experimental equipment, collaborating with senior engineers to ensure smooth operations.

Collaboration:

  • Work closely with the engineering team to assist with ongoing projects, provide feedback on experimental setups, and contribute to brainstorming sessions for future testing procedures. 

Required Qualifications:

  • Strong knowledge of engineering principles, fluid dynamics, and aerodynamics.
  • Experience with programming and coding, particularly in Python, MATLAB, or other similar languages.
  • Familiarity with data visualization tools (e.g., Matplotlib, Excel) to interpret and present experimental data.
  • Solid understanding of sensors, measurement devices, and data acquisition systems used in wind tunnel testing.
  • Basic knowledge of hardware troubleshooting and technical problem-solving skills.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
  • Strong attention to detail and organizational skills.
  • Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal.
    • Previous experience with wind tunnel testing or laboratory environments.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Experience working with data acquisition systems (e.g., LabVIEW, NI hardware).

Education: 

  • Currently pursuing a degree in Mechanical Engineering, Aerospace Engineering, Physics, or a related field.

Physical Requirements: 

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to sit, walk, talk, and hear.  The employee occasionally is required to stand, stoop, kneel and crouch. The employee must occasionally lift and/or push/pull up to 40 pounds.
