Co-op Information Technology Student

CO-OP LEARNING MISSION

We want to establish a partnership with colleges and universities, exposing as many students as possible to employment opportunities in the Wastewater Industry and helping them to become IT professionals in today’s workplace. 

 

CO-OP LEARNING PURPOSE

To attract and cultivate bright and energetic college students and to expose these students to the skills needed to launch a successful information technology career. The Co-op program also serves as a recruitment tool to assist the IT division in hiring full-time IT personnel.

 

CO-OP LEARNING OVERVIEW 

The Co-Op will work closely with our IT staff. They will work on projects appropriate to their experience, be given responsibility for real assignments, and be expected to perform in a professional manner. Assignments could include tasks like: assisting in the creation of employee training materials, creating knowledgebase articles, maintaining and troubleshooting enterprise applications, and providing support on various IT projects.

 

CO-OP LEARNING EXPECTATIONS   

 Co-op students should expect to be treated as full members of our IT staff. We will expect them to manage time wisely, plan their work, and complete assignments well and on time. Students should understand that members of MSD’s business units are depending upon them to provide technology solutions in support of their business needs.            

 

The co-op will learn the various components to the MSD safety programs and will learn:

Budget: 

  • Salary of student; student is tentatively scheduled to work from May to August 2025
  • Supervisory staff time.

Logistics: 

  • Student(s) will report to the MSD Wastewater Engineering Building, 1st floor

Training: 

  • The student(s) will be trained on aspects of helpdesk ticket management plus device and system support. The student(s) are expected to have basic troubleshooting skills for Microsoft Windows and Office products.

Deliverables:

  • Each student will be assigned to work closely with an existing IT staff member in support of the Wastewater Business Services division.
  • If the student has completed a previous term in IT, the project will be a continuation of that work.

In addition to their primary projects, students will be expected to perform other related tasks in the Information Technology section.

 

CO-OP LEARNING EDUCATION REQUIREMENTS

The co-op students should expect to report on their assignments and experiences as required by their schools. They may also need to report on progress to their supervisors during the course of their work.

·      Associate or Undergraduate student

Major – Computer Science, Information Technology, Business, Engineering or closely related

Prefer successful completion of basic information technology coursework or a background in IT beyond typical end-user experience or have related skills.
